Is the bus ok?
Me and my boyfriend are hoping to travel from Miami Airport across to Naples. We don't arrive in Miami until about 18:00 so we probably need to stay in Miami overnight. Can anyone recommend anywhere?
Also how long does the bus journey take because we have to get back to Miami by 10:00 to fly.

There is no public bus from Miami to Naples. I would definately rent a car if I were you. The only bus that I am aware of is Greyhound which is not a pleasant mode of transport. You can spend time in Miami anywhere, but it sounds like the airport area would be most convenient.

Greyhound runs 4 buses a day between Miami and Naples (based on a random day I selected) and there is one that leaves at 10:30 PM so you may just be able to catch it, with a taxi ride from the airport (only a few miles apart). It's about a 3 hour drive.
The roundtrip fare, on my random dates, is only $24.25 roundtrip.
While bus travel is certainly not upscale, the new busses they have make it about as comfortable as can be managed. I was on a 4 hour trip in Colorado a few weeks back and I can tell you that it was a LOT better than a 4 hour flight anywhere.
For under $25 bux and only 3 hours, Greyhound is quite a value for you.

I've taken Greyhound from Hollywood (later stop on same route, about 20 mi. from Miami) to Naples when I combined a trip to some concerts in Sunrise/Ft. Lauderdale, with a trip to my parents in Naples. Depending on the bus, you will be making some stops on the way to Ft. Lauderdale which will add some time...without looking at the Greyhound schedules, figure 3-4 hours+, after Ft. Lauderdale it's smooth sailing to Naples. Probably best to stay in Miami overnight when you get there but also you will need to stay in Miami the night before departure too. I'd recommend staying at a hotel by the airport and then making the journey to downtown to the bus terminal in the daytime, where the bus terminal is located is not a very good area. Also you will need to get a taxi from the Naples terminal, which is basically just a shack on a commercial road. If you do drive, I too would recommend just renting a car in Miami and driving unless you're staying with someone in Naples, you need a car to get around in Naples if you want to go farther afield than your immediate area.

I've taken a Greyhound bus about 12 times. Bus stations are usually never in great areas of cities. The people who ride them aren't freaks, I've had some nice conversations w/women who want to see their children or families. A 3 to 4 hr. bus ride would not be bad. I think it can wear on you if you had to travel 16 hrs. on one though.
