Is Renting a Car Necessary in the US?

You can (I) think of "LA" in a few ways:
1) LA City
2) LA County
3) LA metro area
and the rest of SoCal.
A lot of the attractions are spread out. You could run up a big Uber bill depending on your interests.

Since we have absolutely no idea what the OP might want to see/do, it's hard to be so absolute. Los Angeles wasn't even mentioned in the original post. But carry on...

I think maybe I was who first mentioned Los Angeles. In the conversation comparing it to places I would not rent a car (San Francisco, NYC, Boston, etc.) and places I would rent a car (LA).
Because obviously there is not one answer to Is Renting a Car Necessary in the entire United States, taking every state, region, city, rural area into account. If you want to visit places that are not major cities you'd probably need one or figure out how to use plane, train, bus, etc.

LA was first mentioned in post #4, not by you.
The best reply was post #3, especially the last sentence. We could have left it there.
Yes, "we have absolutely no idea what the OP might want to see/do" - more than 2 weeks after the OP.

Sorry. So then I was just following along with what someone else mentioned about Los Angeles.
You never know who else might be reading for this information. Each thread is not only for the "OP" rather to share information.
Not sure why some seem to think there is a problem with this thread or that it should have stopped 22 posts ago??
Isn't this a travel forum, to discuss options, and give different points of view.
Questions like this do not have a right or wrong answer and you never know who or when someone might find them helpful.

The OP joined on Jan 5, started three threads in the space of two minutes and has not returned to ANY of the three. I think we can safely leave this topic where it is. If the OP isn't invested in the topic(s) why are we??

This thread has been "viewed" 1.3k times. So someone besides the OP cares about the topic.

1.3k views. 28 responses, mostly Fodorites explaining their answers to one another. I find that slim evidence that anyone cares.
