Is Kent Island reachable without a car?

I will be in Annapolis this weekend, and would like to take a ferry or something to Kent Isl. for an afternoon, does such a thing exist? I hear traffic is a pain so I would rather not drive in. Thanks!

There is no ferry. Must drive or find a friend with a private plane as there is a small airport.

Are you driving to Annapolis?? When are you planning to go to Kent Island and what for?? To dine out? There is no ferry that crosses the bay, traffic is mostly bad on Sat mornings going east across the bridge due to the fact the tolls are east bound only and this is the only way to get across the Bay towards the beach.

Asking you "why" you want to go doesn't really help now, does it? If you are driving, traffic on Saturday mornings is perfectly manageable..if it weren't then nobody would be driving. If you want to se "Bad" then try going on a Friday afternoon or coming back on a Sunday afternoon...in comparison, other days are a piece of cake.

The amount of traffic has absolutely nothing to do with the toll plaza..even if it is backed up at the plaza it will only delay you for a couple of minutes.

You'll have to drive...no other practical way to get there.

Well asking him "why" he was going, I could offer a suggestion of something similiar elsewhere so he dont have to deal with the traffic. And im sorry to say that I cross the bridge every day and "bad" traffic isnt just limited to friday and sunday afternoons. And you cant say that w/o the toll plazas the traffic would be the same. You need to wake up. Sat morning traffic is "manageable" if you leave "Early"...you must be thinking of a winter saturday morning. Summer is almost over, you'll see more traffic going to the beach in the next 2 weeks.

No ferry serves Kent Island. Summer Saturday late-morning traffic can be dreadful. However, for most families with school children, the one-week vacation on the Atlantic is out. School is in. Most of these families will not be taking the Bay Bridge for the Atlantic. Condo owners will make up the bulk of the traffic this weekend. Labor Day weekend and all the traffic it causes is two weeks from now. Often, the weekend before Labor Day weekend can have a normal traffic load. However, after a very wet summer in the Washington-Baltimore-Chesapeake area, this weekend's weather is supposed to be brilliant. I expect traffic to be heavier than usual but not dreadful. Just from my experience living just over the Kent Narrows Bridge in Queenstown/Bennett Point.

As for places to eat on Kent Island, there are several that might interest you. South on Route 8 about five miles is the Silver Swan. Less than a mile from bridge's end is the Kent Manor Inn. At Kent Narrows, the restaurants are The Narrows, Annie's Paramount, the mediocre Fisherman's Inn, and Harris' Crab House, only worthwhile for crabs, nothing else. There is a bar called Red Eye's next to Harris' but, if you want to see a jiggly wet tee-shirt contest, I believe they are arranged for Sunday afternoons.
