is drive from salt lake city to yellowstone dangerous, windy?
Hi, im driving from slc to yellowstone this month, Aug and am quite afraid of windy roads with a huge drop off like hwy 49 in sonora. is this drive less scary than that? if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

Where exactly are these drop offs around Sonora? I just can't picture them. Hwy 49 is a pretty good road but can be windy. I assume you meant "windy" as in not straight rather than "windy" as in not still but I could be wrong.
If you take I-15 north from SLC and then get off on US20 to West Yellowstone you should have a mostly easy and fairly straight drive without much stress at all.

Ohhhh! Silly me. I read it as windy with lots of wind. No. It doesn't have much wind.
Does it have turns? The route we took did have a lot of turns but not anything like hwy 120's Priest Grade:not even like New Priest Grade. Nor is it like the area where 80 East dips into the Donner Lake Basin. Not as intense as those, at all. If you take your time and pull off when you need a break, you'll be just fine. We drove from Grand Tetons towards Ogden last summer. There were curves, but they were certainly manageable and not too intense. I think your direction (mostly uphill?) will be much easier, if you don't like roads with lots of curves.
There may also be a few alternatives. You can look on the map and get a closeup google earth view to get a feel for the different options.
Like the other writer noted: lots of folks drive it every day and do fine.
You could plan to drive it during mid day and not on peak travel days (Friday afternoon? Sunday afternoon?) if that would help.
Have a great time. You can do it!
It definitely
