SLC to Yellowstone-Which way?
Our family is traveling from Salt Lake City to Old Faithful Inn. Should we go up to the West Yellowstone Entrance or through the Tetons? We fly into SLC on Tues. and have reserv at Old Faithful on Wed night. Will spend a night somewhere on the way.(preferably moderately priced)

Going through the Tetons will take about 2 hours longer...it's almost exactly 5 hours to either W. Yellowstone or Jackson from SLC. We drive it a lot. If you don't mind the extra drive, I would also recommend that you go via the Tetons...they are beautiful. I also think, if you are departing SLC early enough, that you would do better to drive all the way to Jackson on Tuesday...that will make Wed much more relaxing for you.

We will arrive in SLC at 2:30p and hopefully be on the road by 3:30-have to get luggage and rental. We may take your advice and drive to Jackson, then get up early to drive to Old Faithful. My maps say it's about 100mi to Old Faithful from Jackson--is this a slow 100mi? What are some "don't miss" sights in the Teton NP? WE are planning to do the hike to inspiration point.

We drove this last summer when we went from Yellowstone to Jackson for the day. It was slow but I believe it took around 3 hours and we stopped a few times at Jenny Lake and the Teton info center. We were traveling with another family and had four children with us!! We did a little hiking at Jenny Lake. The view was awesome.
