Mskat,
Oh boy, that would have been wonderful, as jazz is our great love. Unfortunately, we'll be in Torrence, CA for a Bar Mitzvah over Memorial Day Weekend (from 5/26 to 5/29) and then we fly to San Fran, staying at the Tuscan Inn from 5/29 to 6/4 and then back to Ft. Lauderdale. I doubt that I will be lugging my 9 1/2# laptop on our trip. But we could arrange something beforehand. My e-mail is [email protected] (have no idea why this e-mail address is repeating). We're looking forward to our intense trip and to meeting you both. I'm sure that we'll have loads of stories to share.

I have no personal experience since have never road tripped through the south. But I know that in the past there were a lot of issues, not all of them racial. My brother and his best friend were driving south to spend college spring break with the friend's grandparents in Palm Beach.
They got off the highway to have lunch somewhere in GA and went into a casual cafe - where they were completely ignored. After about 10 minutes they stopped a waitress and asked for a menu and were told that "their kind" wasn't welcome. When they asked what kind the waitress used a pejorative term for Jews. Apparently based on their sports car with NY license plate and my brother's looks - black hair and a roman nose - they had decided he was jewish and unacceptable.
What's weird is that he is black Irish, although his blonde blue-eyed best friend actually is Jewish. Granted this was the early 80s - but based on what I have seen from some of the Trumpers and Trumpettes - I'm sure hatred is still alive some places.
Hopefully no one will run into any problems of this sort - but if so I think the only thing to do is just tell the miscreants what you think of them and take your business elsewhere.
