Interesting and meaningless NYC Stats

According to Time NY

Katz's uses 288,000 pounds of pastrami a year
The Hamburger Joint in Le Meridien uses 150,000 pounds of ground beef a year
The favorite flavor of cupcake in nYC is Red Velvet
And there is a $10,000 fine for public lewdness or sellling a toy gun that looks like a real one

I think I once read that if Manhattan were populated at the same density as the state of Alaska, there would be 15 people living there (in Manhattan).

TimeOut New York. I often tell people on my double deckers that if Manhattan were as safe as some of them think it is there would only be 15 people living here and I would really wonder why some of them spent all this money to visit.

Seriously, despite the fact that the typeface in TimeOut is skewed to people with great eye sight who mostly live in Brooklyn and are a lot younger than I am, the website and the magazine are great ways to find things YOU want to do while you are here.

Me too. I'm always amazed at people that think 1,000 people is a town. There are more than that on my block.

Legal subway performers have to audition to get their permit and location.

NYC holds about 25% of the world's gold supply and you can take a tour to see it-if you are into that sort of thing.

Broadway is one of the world's longest streets it starts around Bowling Green and ends in Alabny NY.

Central Park is larger than Monaco

for those reading--keep in mind that the Time Out NY article also contains "facts" written/made up by, writer, comedian, and "PC" extraordinaire, John Hodgman.

Sometimes it's hard to tell the facts from the facts
