Inexpensive Maui Suggestions for Family of 5
Hello
We are traveling to to Maui (north of Kaanapali area) in August and I'd love to get feedback on inexpensive places to eat or get takeout that is delicious. I've already heard about getting veges and fruit at the farmers market - any other ideas? We will spend most of our time in the Napili beach area. Thanks much!

Besides fast food most hole in the wall type places have the best prices. I can't remember the names. Local joints you can grab cheap spring rolls or plate lunches. At the bottom level of Whaler's Village is a good pizza spot. The you have the grocery store. Maui Tacos in Lahaina too.

In Napili, try The Gazebo for breakfast.
Near Napili, on Lower Honoapiilani Road, try HONOKOWAI OKAZUYA & DELI 665-0512 (call ahead because they have odd hours and close for a bit between lunch and dinner.) Hands down, the best take-out on Maui. The owner used to be the chef at the $$$$$ Mama's Fish House.

In the Napili shopping center (strip mall) off of the highway there is a market with groceries and they make pretty good picnic sandwiches at a great price. We pick them up for the cooler for day excursions.

We went to Maui as a family of 5, and I was really concerned about cost - especially after reading this board. I was very pleasantly surprised how cheap our vacation was. First, we ate breakfast and lunch at the hotel - shopping in a grocery store. OJ is very expensive, but pineapple juice is very cheap. We bought those things that Hawaii is known for, and it was fine.... I didn't think prices were that high for groceries (but I live in the CO mountains which is also very high!). We ate at Maui taco 4 nights - from 25$ to 35$ per visit for all of us. I had a fish burrito with pineapple sausa. Local, good and cheap!. We didn't do any of the tours. We rented snorkels for the week (150$ or less) and we rented 2 boogie boards for the week. We hiked and saw whales off the coast of our hotel. Have fun - we had a wonderful time!

At Snorkel Bobs we got 4 sets of snorkel gear for $18.00. They offer you 2 for 1 @ $9 per week.
We found ourselves at that shopping center that lahainaluna described and ate at Subway. We also shopped at that market and found it was reasonable.
