Inexpensive hotels in NYC

Hi,
I will be in NYC next month, and was planning to stay in the times square area. In the past I always used www.hoteldiscounts.com or www.hotels.com to book my hotels, and always got great deals. I've used them to stay at the hard rock in Chicago for $79/night, Le Meridian in Paris for $150/night, Monteleone in New orleans for $99/night, etc. etc.

I'm not finding anything in the times square area for less then $200/night, and those places don't sound great. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Check out www.PlacesToStay.com. They have some off beat accommodations.

Forget finding a major brand hotel in Times Square this time of year for under $200.

Also, check out The Salisbury. A couple of steps from Times Square and usually under $200 per night.

You're hitting the convention season in NYC, which may partly explain the problem.

Anyway, try the Best Western Presidential just off TImes Square. It's a small hotel with basic rooms, but it's clean and well-located, and the staff in the past has been friendly and helpful.

This is the start of the busiest time of year in NYC - and New York is not Chicago or New Orleans - prices have always been way higher. (How you got that in Paris - unless at an off time if year - I'm not sure.)

Also- the dollar is low so NYC is mobbed with european tourists. Times Square for under $200 is very unrealistic. And no - for $200 it won;t be great. This time of year a deluxe hotel in NYC is typically at least $500 ranging up to about $700 for a basic double room.

I suggest - trying Priceline (but this won't work until you get closer and they release inventory) so for now try other areas of the city to see if you can find something you can cancel if you luck out on Priceline.
