Inexpensive hotel B&B or hotel in NOLA - 1930 Canal Street Guest House
I am considering a couple of days in NOLA over new years. Budget is extremely low, though. Can anyone recommend any inexpensive hotels, B&Bs or hostels?
Does anyone have comments on the 1930 Canal St. Guest House? And safe, fun evening activities for a young woman travelling alone?
Thanks!

1390 Canal street is the address? That is on the other side of Rampart street from the French Quarter and if memory serves, that is a pretty shady area. If it were me, I would stay in the French Quarter itself, not "near" the FQ.

I agree. Pretty "ghetto" neighborhood overall. In fact, I think that address would be in the area that will be razed for a new hospital soon!
Stay closer to the Quarter. If budget is that tight, try Priceline.

I have stayed at the Lamothe House (November 2008) on Esplandade, and the rates there start at around $60 or so. I averaged $80/night I think. Prices could be a little higher due to the New Year's holiday. It is very nice there. Accomodations can range from fairly basic to luxurious, depending on the room.
My second trip I stayed at A Creole House on St. Ann. This was nice, too. Rates are around $50/night or so, and the owners have other hotels in the area that are reasonable.
Neither were right in the French Quarter. A Creole House is near Louis Armstrong Park and Lamothe House is in Faubourg Marigny. Both are a short distance to the French Quarter (literally a few blocks). If you are into the Bourbon Street scene, A Creole House is about 2-3 blocks from Bourbon Street. There are also many disco/nightclub kind of bar

That's Sugar Bowl weekend- everything's going to be higher than usual, and New Orleans is generally not cheap.
I like the Ambassador and the Prince Conti. Barone Plaza was relatively cheap, but it has no character and is not the best location for a single woman.
We got a great deal on the Wyndham Riverfront for JazzFest, but it was a huge hike to the Quarter (so we probably wouldn't have stayed there again anyway) and housekeeping showed up at 7:45am on the day we were checking out. If a $30 motel in Ohio can get that right, a freaking Wyndham shouldn't have a problem with it. Did I mention we're both NOT morning people and we were hung over on top of it?
