Reco's for lunch spot in Houston?
I am meeting up with my mom and sister for an overnight in Houston. We're staying at the Icon. We probably won't get to the hotel until about 3:00, so it would be a late lunch... And recommendations for a funky spot with flex hours for us to grab a bite after checking in? We plan to eat in the hotel restaurant for a late dinner. Thanks!

There is El Rey Taqueria at 233 Main. The Icon is at 220 Main. I haven't eated at that El Rey, but it has good reviews and the original on Washington is one of my favorite places for a quick meal or take out. Their chicken tortilla soup is delicious. I just finished a bowl, in fact!
Another place is in the Discovery Green Park area. The Lake House Waterside Cafe is supposed to be really good. It's several blocks away, though.
Check out reviews for both these places on www.b4-u-eat.com Also, put in 77002 to check out other places downtown if you need more suggestions.

Would second both places maryann suggests. In Discovery Green Park, also consider The Grove. Informal, but very good food and a little nicer than the cafe. See www.discoverygreen.com
If you like seafood, try Massa's. One location is directly across the street from the 4 Seasons (and a block or so from Discovery Green Park). Wouldn't consider it funky, but very good food.

Just to follow up on this one - we ate at El Rey and the tortilla soup is awesome! I got a large, which was huge, ate it all, then went and tried on wedding dresses.
Quick review on the Hotel Icon and its restaurant, Voice. First of all, hotel and its lobby rock. I loved the decor, location is great, comfy beds, sweet bathroom. We ordered the five-course tasting menu along with the wine pairing and it was incredible. Food and service were both excellent - this meal is now in my top five for best ever meals!

I'll check out both, though, just in case.
