Inexpensive Fish Restaurants on Maui

I am leaving for Maui on 11/10 (YIPPY!)

I would like to eat a lot of fresh fish, but cannot afford the fancy restaurants. Are there any inexpensive places to eat fish?

Also, what is the best place to buy groceries? (Someone suggested I hit Costco and Walmart when I arrive.)

If you are staying in the West Maui area, Honokowai Okazuya and Deli has great fish dinners for carryout. It's on Lower Honokowai Rd. in the little strip mall.
I know some people like to stop for groceries at Costco and KMart, but we just stop at the Safeway in Lahaina. We come from the Midwest so I usually shop very early the morning after we arrive---6 hour time difference makes for a very early wake up the first morning. You can apply online for the Safeway shopping card so that you can get the grocery discounts--they also let you apply at the store.
If you are planning on driving around Maui and sightseeing, Richard Sullivan's book, Driving and Discovering Maui is great.
I would also suggest you take some binoculars---even the little compact binoculars are good. The whales are arriving in the waters near Maui. Seeing the whales was the highlight of our trip. We went in Feb. and they were everywhere.
Have a wonderful trip. Hope you return to Fodors and report on your visit.

Wheer are you staying? Costco is great for fish, some liquor, but for anything else, unless you plan on consuming mass quantities during your stay, it's probably not your best option. I shop at Long's Drugs for beer, wine, local beef for my husband and local produce. If you are staying in south Maui, Eskimo Candy Fish Market has a great fresh fish counter, plate lunches, big assortment of pokes, and sushi, only Mon-Fri though. Groceries at WalMart? Not so much.

Pa`ia Fish Market in Pa`ia has fabulous fish sandwiches and plates. It is very casual, but the fish is fresh and the quality of the food is simply the best. The Upcountry Greens salad, at $5.75 is fabulous, We often order one fish burger and one salad and split them. Portions are large!

In Kahului, Ichiban for sushi. Khei, Jawz fish tacos. Lahaina Coolers in Lahaina.

For a more of moderate dining experience, KKO in Kihei. They have early spedcials. Eary specials can be found also at Five Palms, Canoes in Lahaina (amazing salad bar here too!). Mañana Garage has South American-inspired fusion fish options, half price between 5 and 5:30.

Not sure exactly what you condier to be high-priced, but Hecocks in Lahaina has nightly specials and a table along the rails will have you overlooking the show at the Feast at Lele.

A second vote for Pa'ia Fish Market. Nothing fancy but very good fresh fish.

Just got back.

Thanks for the recommendation of Pa'ia Fish Market. It was great!

Also, did some shopping at Costco and Walmart for gifts to bring back.

Wonderful trip! Can't wait to go back.
