Dock's, located at 40th and 3rd, is my favorite breakfast/brunch restaurant in that area. It specializes in seafood, so some of the breakfasts come with smoked salmon. The food is good, and there's never a wait. It's a nice restaurant - not TOO fancy (i.e., you could wear jeans there) but definitely not a dive. They bring you a little basket of muffins and biscuits as soon as you sit down - sounds like you'll need it after the flight!

I love brunch at the Paris Commune in the Village (411 Bleeker St) particularly their salmon eggs benedict.
Here's where you'll find details:

If I were you I'd let the board know exactly where your hotel is. If you will arrive starving I doubt you'll want the hassle of travelling out of your neighborhood, or off your block for that matter -- if I were you I'd go for hotel room service ordered the instant you arrive, or a cheap reliable local diner, and save the special dining for non-starvation occasions.

Randy,
If you are looking for an upscale breakfast restaurant, then Norma's is it! It is in the Le Parker Meridien. It is expensive, but they've elevated breakfast to a dining experience. This is only a few blocks from the Plaza. You will need to get there early though, maybe @8:00AM. Later on the wait getsw to be an hour or so and people start getting cranky.

Board the M60 bus and keep your eyes open on Broadway for "Toms Restaurant" on your left. You'll recognize it from "Seinfield".
I really don't know anything about the place, but I do see a LOT of places while riding the bus, including the above. For breakfast, I'm usually only looking for "diner" food anyway.
