In KEY LARGO on my way to FT Lauderdale
At the beautiful WESTIN resort in Key Largo............heading to Ft. Lauderdale. Thanks for all your great suggestions. Is it worth a stop in the Everglades? What else do you suggest?????????????

Yes - The Everglades are worth a stop! As you re-enter the mainland on US 1, you are in Florida City. There is a traffic light with a Shell station on the corner at the end of the "strip" right before the turnpike entrance. Turn left and just follow the road to Everglades National Park. Stop at the Visitor's Center building and then drive to the Anhingua Trail. See if you can time it for a ranger walk. Even if you can't, you'll see lots of birds, gators, etc. On the way back out, stop at the "Robert is Here" fruit stand for wonderful milkshakes. Also great fruit and veggies. The whole detour will add about 3 hours to your drive to Ft. L. There's no food concessions in the park so take a picnic lunch if you plan on eating there. There's a Miami Subs at the same light with the Shell station.
