in D.C.-Hay-Adams or The Jefferson?

My husband and I will be celebrating an anniversary (our first) in Washington D.C. in September. We will be staying for 2 nights. I have found GREAT rates at the Jefferson Hotel. I have read really good things about this hotel. The best rate for the Hay-Adams is about $70 more than the Jefferson.
Should I pay more? Or is the Jefferson a good choice?

I don't have any info on the Jefferson but we have stayed at the Hay-Adams and really enjoyed it. The view of the whitehouse from there is great. Ask for a view from the roof at night(they have to escort you and call the whitehouse to inform them so their sharpshooters don't think you're snipers) the view is beautiful. The restaurant is a fun experience (although pricey). We walked to all the monuments from there and the metro (or whatever it's called) is just around the corner. The hotel itself is very old, but it has wonderful charm and lots of fun "history" (rumors or not, we weren't sure). The rooms were nice size and very comfortable. Have fun!

The Hay-Adams is closer to the Metro if that's important to you and to restaurants. The Jefferson is a lovely old hotel (only been in the restaurant and bar) but you'll walk farther.

Jefferson--lovely hotel, and in my opinion, the best in the city.
