Ihilani Marriott construction Oahu?
Hello, I was wondering if there is construction going on around the hotel area at this time. We'll be checking in on Saturday and was wondering if we should request a room on the opposite side of the resort that faces the time share/beach club properties? It may be tough to get our request at the hotel is sold out the day we're arriving but we're hoping not to be facing any possible building cranes and/or related noises. Can't wait! I'm already imagining reading on our balcony and watching the sea turtles. Two more days till paradise.... Thanks for any comments.

We stayed "next door" at the Marriott Ko Olina in October. The construction was on the side of the Ihilani, I guess it would be the east side of the hotel and really don't think it will interfere with your views. And if the hotel is full, I am not sure you will have much bargaining power.
If you haven't been there before, it is really lovely and I am sure no matter what -- you'll have a wonderful time.
Hope this helps...

Hi Debbi, thanks for the comments, it's helpful. Yes, we've been visitng every year back to prior to Marriott's purchase (around 2000?) but I think last December was our last visit. It doesn't help that we're checking in after 4pm or so. Well Saturday is the only day it's sold out so we'll see. We've always stayed on the side facing the luau, is that the east side? Sorry I'm so bad with directions. And thanks again for responding.

Yes the side nearest the luau would be where the construction is happening.
We were out and about most of the time, so views from the room wasn't all that critical [we had a penthouse, but a view of refinery].
We were also there the morning of the earthquake! Now that was some way to end our 2 weeks in paradise!

Wow, that had to be an exciting experience! The penthouse must have been really pretty, the rooms are decorated so nicely. The refinery, not so much. I've never noticed a smell but some people say there is one? We did have a mountain view facing the refinery once and really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing about the luau side because that is what we were going to ask for. We've stayed on every side and liked the luau side the best. We own a condo that we rent out so we are now able to get resident discounts with local identification. This is the first time we have a local rate and now I'm wondering since we're getting a discount if we'll also be low priority. We'll see! Thanks again.

We stayed at the Ihilani at the end of September. Our room overlooked the Paradise Cove luau and we didn't notice any construction at that time. The only construction we saw was located between the Ihilani and the Marriott Ko Olina. There were 3-4 large cranes and they were working 6 days a week. We were pleasantly surprised at how quiet the hotel was while we were there. No slamming doors, or noisy hallways. Have a wonderful time!

OK, I am now confused. Is the Luau area before the Ihilani? If so, that would indeed be the quieter side. The construction is indeed between the Ihilani and Ko Olina so my second post above is mixed up.

Thanks SDAlley. I was thinking maybe someone was building on that private property near the Luau or something. So it looks like I want to try to avoid the side facing the Ko'Olina condos.

Yes, you are right SDally! Funny how 2 months will play games with the memory.
travelinwifey-- go with the side that faces the luau if you can, not the Ko Olina side where the construction is located.
Phew, glad that is straightened out.

Just an update, when we arrived at around 5 pm the hotel was fully booked and our room had been preassigned. As luck would have it we already had the exact room/view we were hoping for, on the 6th floor with mountain and ocean views luau side. The receptionist told us we could switch rooms the following day if we wanted but didn't need it.
Re: construction, there are about 4 cranes up at this time facing the time share section but the noise was very minimal with the ocean breeze. Didn't impact our hotel stay at all.
That week went by so fast. The breakfast buffet was excellent as was the lawn by the beach where we like to hang out, total bliss. Can't wait to return.
