Ideas for 10 yr anniversary
I'm looking for ideas for a get-away for my husband and me for our 10 year wedding anniversary. We live in the Northeast, and would like to find somewhere warm in October. I'm hesitant about Hilton Head or the Outer Banks b/c of hurricane season. We'll most likely be taking a long weekend, so we don't want to spend too much time travelling (i.e Cailifornia). Am I looking for the impossible - warmth in October, not in hurricane area, not too far from the east coast??? Any suggestions are much appreciated.

I would recommend a trip to Kiawah Island. I think the danger of the season is pretty much over by that part of October. Technically the season lasts until about November 1st. I have been to Kiawah in October during 5 of the last 7 seasons and never even experienced a hint of any tropical storms. Just a thought. Congratulations on your 10 year! I am sure you will have a good time no matter where you travel. If you need any information on Kiawah please visit my blog at www.lowcountrytourist.blogspot.com

I would say something in Florida (like Miami) or Cancun, Mexico. My husband and I live in NJ and we go to Miami a lot - it's a great place to go as a couple. It's only 3 hours away from NYC area so we go for long weekends. Mexico is only 15 or 20 minutes further from Miami and it's super cheap. Both places will be warm in October, but no rain. If it does rain, it will be a quick shower and over in an hour or two max.

Yes, that is the impossible. Hurricane season lasts until Nov.1 and covers all the areas that would be warm in October and are not far from the east coast. Here in Florida, September and October are considered the peak part of the season for hurricanes, although there's no way to predict them until they form.
So I don't know what to tell you! You're going to have to either disregard hurricane danger (which loads of people do), or take a few extra days to travel to the west coast.

Asheville, Charlotte or the Smoky Mtns in NC. They might be too far inland for your interests though. ? Or Chincoteague/Assateague Island in VA/MD. They would be far enough north to not have to worry about hurricanes too much and probably warm enough for you...weatherunderground.com shows a historical average of 71 for a high and 54 for a low in the month of Oct.
