Hey, I thought this was about bashing NASCAR! Seriously though, most of you who are bashing have never actually been to a race. My husband and I went to our first one a few weeks ago, along with 2 other couples. We're all home (not trailer) owners, arrived in foreign sedans (not RV's or pickups) and have master's degrees. Did we feel out of place? Not in the least--sure there are some yahoos, but aren't there some everywhere?
Maybe you should actually go to a race and see what the fuss is all about. Openmindedness isn't just about eating sushi and goint to modern poetry readings. It's about actually trying something that you might not find appealing at the outset.
Keep taking your best shots; and for all of you who are too good to drink beer from aluminum cans--you're not my friends anyway, and I don't need you.
Go Tony Stewart!

Sandy, well said from another Tony Stewart fan (GO #20). And to all you people who keep describing NASCAR fans as toothless, beer-swilling rednecks I have one request, DO NOT repeat DO NOT ever attend a NASCAR race, as tickets are already hard enough to get.
And to Ptooey, 100,000 fans is the numbers for an average NASCAR race. A big race like Daytona or Indianapolis easily draws 250,000 to 300,000 people to one event. Baseball could never dream to draw that many people to one game. Also baseball tickets cost on average $15.00 to $20.00 each where a NASCAR ticket probably averages $100.00 each. I doubt anyone would pay $100 to see a run of the mill baseball game. And where are all of these ignorant, uneducated NASCAR fans getting the money to buy these tickets. Just my 4 cents. And "L" CCIIIAAAOOO!!!!!!!!

i'll bet all you NASCAR bashers out there spend every sunday sitting on your butts watching football, right? now how stupid is THAT sport -- a bunch of overweight black guys wearing pads throwing the other team to the ground. you call that athletic? that's sheer stupidity.
give me a sport like rugby or australian rules football any day -- it's rough as hell, they don't wear padding and they could kick any american footballers butt any time.

To answer a question:
If you go to
www.thatsracin.com/99/0815/0812safety2.htm
You'll get this statement from a 1999 article. Hard to know if this was an average year, or worse or better than average.
Six spectators have been killed and 14 injured at major motor sports events in the past year in the United States when debris from accidents flew into the grandstands.

Hey, Greg, I can't blame you for not spelling it out ... your grammar was, well, B__, A___, D___! Your participle was dangling so much you probably stepped on it ... yikes, that's gotta hurt! Hope you're feeling better and can rejoin the site soon. Ciao

To "L", Ouch that hurts, to attack someones grammar and dangling participles. You are one to talk since you do not even have the guts to use your real name. Mine may be dangling but at least I have one. Perhaps you should get a life and join the real world. I hope can can decipher these scribblings since I ain't had much book lernin like you did.

"L" No harm done, all in good fun. Anyone who takes all this stuff to seriously really has the problem. Likewise, if I have seriously offended anyone, I too apologize. Its nice to have an avenue to express ones self and not have to be "PC" all the time. Yes, we NASCAR fans have a tendency to be a bit rabid sometimes but hey, we all have our vices. That's all from me. Auf Weidersehn and Au Revoire (Sorry about spelling "L")
