Hyatt Regency Embarcadero?

We are leaving on Sat for SF. I booked our hotel thru priceline and came up with this one. How's it? We were originally suppose to be in SF at the beginning of the month and I had booked Westin St. Francis. I was pretty happy with that hotel for the price. Hubby had surgery and we had to change everything. I really thought I would get the same hotel using the same bidding stratagy on Priceline. Didn't work out that way. So, how do they compare?

I'd much prefer the Hyatt Regency. I think you did fine.

You can walk to the Ferry Building from there easily. You can even take BART from the airport if you want to and it drops you right at your door practically.

I'm staying there on Sat night too. Priceline too (how much did you pay? Nooooo, don't tell me, unless it is more than I bid )

The Hyatt is a great hotel. I like the St Francis too - but mainly for sentimental reasons. It is much more traditional - but the views and location at the Hyatt - you won't be sorry . . . .

We love that Hyatt and usually get it when bidding on PL. I literally hold my breath waiting for it to appear after I bid. The white ginger soap, shampoo and conditioner are super; ask the maid for extra if you like it too. You may get either a city view or a bay view; either is fine. Don't miss the Ferry Building Marketplace just across the street.

Tell us how you liked the hotel after your trip, OK?

I was wondering if it was feasable to take BART from the airport so thanks for the info!
Janisj.....it was less that I originally paid for the Westin so, I was shocked...and a little concerned. LOL!

Take BART to the Embarcadero station. Exit the stairs that say "Drumm Street" and you'll be AT the Hyatt. Couldn't be easier.

When you checkin they may offer an upgrade for $35 per night. If its in your budget go for it! Room with a balcony that overlooks the bay. Amazing views! BART from SFO very very easy...and cheap too.

No matter where you stay, you'll want to go all over.

I often accompany my husband on business trips and am always thrilled to get the Hyatt Embarcadero with Priceline. We've stayed near the Piers, Union Square, Nob Hill, etc., but I like the Embarcadero location the best.

With Priceline bookings, I've always been offered an upgrade for a nominal additional nightly rate, well worth it for a sitting area and balcony with views to the Ferry Building and Bay Bridge (and gorgeous sunsets). Wonderful restaurants and everything you could need (including a Walgreens, very handy) is within steps or a short walk, along with the trolleys, buses, streetcars, and the California cable car line, so you can conveniently go all over. (The "passport" is a terrific bargain.) Though the hotel is a bit dated in some ways, they are constantly upgrading, so nothing objectionable.

Anyway, we love to stroll Pier 7 at dusk and ride the California cable car over and back late at night before strolling "home".

My mom and I just stayed there earlier this month, also booked thru Priceline. We were there for 4 nights total. Here's a link to my review (& photos) on tripadvisor:

It is certainly not as grand as Westin St Francis (I went there to pick up my rental car), but the Hyatt is just so convenient - buses, BART, cable car, metro, Ferry building etc.

If they don't offer the upgrade should I ask for it?

djkbooks....you mentioned the passport, is that the 3 day MUNI passport? I was wondering about that. Can it be used for all public transportation except for BART?

How far is it from the Ferry Building to Pier 39? Can you walk it? It is very difficult to tell from the maps how far things are apart.

We are leaving in the morning and I'm soooo excited. We are actually coming to town for the Raiders game on Sunday. My hubby is a lifelong Raiders fan and this is a first for him so he's pretty excited too!

My condolences The Al/Lane soap opera is keeping us entertained in all the papers and on sports talk radio out here - that's for sure.

(I'll recognize you at check in by the hang dog look)

Go Niners!

jj...funny!

We've stayed at the Hyatt Regency quite a few times via P#39;line the past 2-3 yrs.
Always a good stay and a great location.

Really like that hotel. Had a nice view of the Ferry Bldg/Bay Bridge last time down this past Aug.

Not too far from Perbacco.

It's about a mile and a half from the Ferry Bldg. to Pier 39, and yes, it's walkable.

Janis, you're a hoot!
