hudson valley

My husband and I are spending a weekend in the Hudson Valley, Cold Spring, Garrison. Any suggestion for good dinner restaurants. Has anyone eaten at the Hudson House recently. How is the Sunday brunch at the Thayer Hotel?

It's been at least 6mo since I ate at Hudson House - it was good, but not spectacular. After a while another good steak is another good steak

I much prefer Cathryn Tuscan Grill in Cold Spring. Excellent Northern Italian cousine. http://www.tuscangrill.com/

If you are headed further north there are some very good places in Fishkill & Wappingers Falls near Rt 9, or Hyde Park/Rhinebeck I can send you to.

I've always like Riverview in Cold Spring, but haven't been there in a while. Any locals out there who have been recently??

Or go up to Fishkill, and try Il Barilotto, which I think is superb Tuscan restaurant. Maybe a more local person than I can tell you if it is on a par with Cathryn's Tuscan in Cold Spring (and I'd like to know myself!!) Glad you're coming to the Hudson Valley. I love living here.

I stayed at The Thayer and decided against brunch. It was very crowded and loud. It looked very nice but I wanted something simpler and quiet. I love Cold Spring. There is a place called The Depot that is nice for lunch.

J62,
We will be at Bard College next weekend for Family Weekend (daughter is a freshman). Any recommendations for restaurants near there and in Kingston will be appreciated.

Near Bard I like the Terrapin in Rhinebeck. They have 2 parts - the bistro/bar and the restaurant. Both are very, very good. The bistro/bar does not take reservations.

For just a light meal I'll usually just choose the bistro/bar.
