How to get where we plan to go
We have our itinerary set for this weekend. 3 Moms and 5 teenage daughters. I'm hoping someone herecan give me directions as to how to get where we plan to go. We arrive JFK Sat. morning at 7:30. What's the best way for 8 of us to get to the Hilton Times Square? We plan to check our luggage at the hotel upon arrival and get some breakfast. Any suggestions where we should have breakfast? After breakfast what subway & stop do we need to take to get to the tkts booth near the South Street Seaport? After that we plan a stop at the WTC site and like so many others, pay our respects. Where is the best spot to view this now? Then it's off to Grimaldi's for lunch and a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge weather permiting. What train do we need to take over to Brooklyn. Is Grimaldi's easy to find? If we should decide to visit Little Italy or Greenwhich Village on our return is it best to walk? Where would be the best to shop? The rest of the weekend we'll spend up near Times Square. Have tickets for Xmas Spectacular and hope to get tickets for a show. The rest of the time we plan to do lots of shopping. Any help will be appreciated!

The following link has information on how to get from JFK into Manhattan. I would say the best way for you would be to take a shuttle van.

To get to the TKTS booth near the South Street Seaport from from Times Square take either the 2 or 3 Downtown train to Fulton St. or the A or C Downtown train to Broadway-Nassau. In terms of the best place to view the WTC site, I would recommend the Winter Garden inside the World Financial Center. Sorry I can't be of help with breakfast recommendations or directiuons to Grimaldi's in Brooklyn. If you go to Little Italy, I do recommend that you try IL Cortile on Mulberry Street.

Have a great trip.

Airport bus to Port Authority - $13 a person PA is less than half a block to the hotel
Shuttle bus - $15 a person. Takes you directly to the hotel
Taxi - Rate is fixed at $35, Tip and toll extra. Cost will be less than $45. You will require two cabs since limit is four to a cab. The fastest way to go. Do the arithmetic and you will see it is the least expensive way to go.
#2 or #3 express train from Times Square statio located atb 42nd and Broadway. Get off at Fulton street station and walk to Seaport. You might consider walking over the Bridge to Brooklyn and taking the subway back to Manhattan after lunch

Grimaldi's directions:
From A/C Train (High Street/Brooklyn Br. stop), get off towards the back of the train at the Henry St/Cadman Plaza West exit. Upon exiting the station, make a U-turn and head down the hill, bearing left onto Old Fulton Street. Take this a few blocks down the hill (under the overpass) and Grimaldi's will be on the right side, with the green awning. Just past Grimaldi's is the pier with the most excellent views of Manhattan!

Hilton almost always has a fab breakfast I would just eat at the hotel if you are arriving on a red eye. Are you coming from the West Coast Elizabeth?
I hope you will consider Soho for your shopping. Funny I always leave the city when I need to shop so darn expensive here! Broadway west of the Village is nice for the teens although I like a stroll across Soho it is very high end but it is sprinkled with affordable shops. You will also see galleries you can wander in and out of. There are designers that might have two hand fulls of cloths in a large space, funky funky furniture etc.

Elizabeth,
If you are arriving at 7:30, you can figure you won't get to your hotel until about 9am, check in will take you to 10:00 and into the rooms, leaving the hotel around 10 will get you to the South St. Seaport around 11 which will be good for your tickets. I would suggest eating there at the Seaport there are lots of places in that area for lunch. Head back up Fulton St and toward the WTC and there are lots of stores in that area the girls will enjoy, lots of stuff right on the street. There is also a $10 store just before Broadway, I am sure the girls won't miss it. Everything in the store is $10 and it's geared for them.
Ok on to Broadway, turn left head down 2 blocks and you will see the "ground zero" 1 block to your right, not much to see anymore, just a large hole in the ground, (and in our souls). There is a stairway crossing the street behind the site, you may want to walk up the stairs for a view of the site and get and idea of just how big the area is.
Ok, from there, walk back to Century 21, one of the better discount stores in the city and it's across from the WTC site.
By now it is time to head back uptown to get ready for the theatre, and have a bit of dinner and there are lots of places right in the Times Square area.
I would suggest Sabaro's or the Stardust, (the servers sing), the kids will love it and the food is ok. It's on Broadway around 59th St.
Also right next to the Hilton upstairs over Appleby's there is a food court, with lots of choices for lunch or dinner and not too expensive. Also Ollie's is a good Chinese restaurant in the area.
On Sunday, head down to Chinatown and meet us for Dim Sum...we usually go down on the weekends, great food and CHEAP right on Mott St., after lunch the girls will want to head to Canal St for shopping, and again, everything is right on the street. Bargin don't forget to bargin for anything you want.
From there, head up to Little Italy for a bit of something sweet. Also lots of shopping and some nice Christmas lights in the area.
Hope this helps and have a great time while you are here. Let me know if you have any other questions.
