How to find our lost NC house

Hullo Fodorites. Maybe you can help me do a little detective work.

For many years we've been renting the same beach house in South Nag's Head, NC, for the last two weeks of August. We recently received an e-mail from the realty company saying that this house is no longer listed with them. We think that the house might have been sold and we'd like to find the new owner to see if he's either listed with another realty company or would consider renting to us privately.

I believe that house sales are a matter of public record. Can anyone tell me how I can find out who the new owner is?

I know we can seek another house but we know and like this one and it's iffy to rent a new place sight unseen. If we have to, we will, though, but this place was just perfect for us.

Many thanks.

You can get all kinds of information on tax collector websites. I looked up the one for Nag's Head:

Good luck!

hdm, the house is probably being managed by another realty company in the area now, unless it's been sold. That's happened to us with a couple of homes at Emerald Isle. I'd *Google* for the major realty companies there, and check their listings to see if you can find your house that way. Good luck ... we do get attached to places!

Wow, what fast responses! I'll look into both your suggestions, thanks.

I'm still open to ideas...

Have you contacted the old owner? Realtors might not make that info avail, but my NJ rental contract has some limited owner info, I saved the owner phone # when they called last summer (to check on a repair).

Thanks for your help, everyone. We've just been contacted by the new agency to say our place is listed with them.

That tax website is very interesting, though!
