How much time in Washington DC does anyone reccomend to see the major sites?

Depends on how many museums you want to go to. I would say about 4 days or 5. I personally would stay about 7 because I like the Smithsonian a lot. It's a hard call really.

You'll be constantly on the go to
see everthing in 4 days.
We went during Thanksgiving weekend
a few years ago and there were no crowds. It was great!

Four months!

I agree with the other posters though - a week would be good but it will be a very busy week - no sleeping in. Be sure you contact your congressperson to get tickets, though I know some things are still closed from 9/11.
