I've been to Vegas many times, but never tried the Mirage buffet. Years ago when everything was cheap, they were the "expensive one". Now they're about average. The travel guidebooks rate their buffet as excellent, but on A2zlasVegas.com less than 40% of people responding said they would eat there again, and gave it less than a 5 on a scale of 1-10. I don't understand such a discrepancy. What do you folks think of the Mirage buffet? Any other suggestions for a good Sunday champagne brunch (under $20.00 please)? Well, I can only tell you about my experience at the Mirage Buffet. It was the best meal I had in Vegas. It was more like a sit down restaurant than a regular buffet. The wait staff was very good. An outstanding dining experience for me.

We ate there last Saturday and were very impressed. It was $16 per person for the champagne brunch, and it was a very good value. They had a wide variety of choices in both the breakfast and lunch entrees, plus cook-to-order omlettes and pasta. I will definitely go back next time!

I have to disagree with previous posters. My wife and I ate there in November, and IMO - nothing special. I would rather go to Alladin or Paris.

The Paris evening buffet was GREAT!! They had a salad bar with cheeses, already peeled huge shrimp, and crab legs split down the center so you didn't have to fight with the shell.

Then, they had 4-5 small buffets representing the different regions from France. I can remember the Normandy region had some of the best mussels I've ever had.

It was about $20.00, but worth every penny.

The fatal flaw in your logic is that you're putting stock in what guide books say. First off, they're often outdated--as soon as they hit the bookstore (the info was collected quite some time prior, or was simply carried over from previously). Second, most guide books inflate the quality of everything they rate. The most trustworthy info sources are ones which freely criticize and condemn mediocre or poor establishments, while praising the good ones.

***Second major issue: when looking at online ratings, use a bit of your own experience and verify the quality of the ratings.
Example: at a2zlasvegas did you notice what the top rated hotels are?
Golden Nugget, Orleans, Caesar's and Bally's.
76th best hotel? Mandalay Bay.
36th best? Venetian.
Barbary Coast and Arizona Charlie's beat both of those and Bellagio by a long shot?

The ratings there are complete garbage.
Total waste of bandwidth and time.

The Mirage buffet was ok, nothing special like someone posted and it sure wasn't great. If you want great that would be the Bellagio!

My 2-cents: The Mirage buffet: average.
Best: Aladdin, Bellagio, Paris, in that order...I believe the previous poster is correct in that ratings tend to follow considerably behind actuality (remember the Rio buffet?); plus buffets tend to be person-specific. That is, one's "good" buffet is anothers "bad" buffet. I believe however, you'll find that the three I mention consistently come out in the top five.

Also, just my 2 cents worth.

Last year we had the breakfast buffet at the Mirage. My daughter ( who is 30) loved it.We tried the Paris breakfast buffet last week and my daughter thought it was only fair. She wants to go back to the Mirage next trip. I also think I liked the Mirage's breakfast buffet the best of the two.I would rate both very close to the same though.

Breakfast buffet at Ballys last month was great, best we ever had. Very fresh, spotlessly clean room and good service.

Well, I thought the guidebooks would be accurate when they said the Mirage buffet was good because they DID say that the Circus Circus and Excaliber buffets were poor, which everyone seems to be in agreement with.

Has the Rio buffet really gone that far downhill? Five years ago, it was excellent. So I guess I shouldn't make the trip over there for it? I've also heard the Stratosphere buffet isn't good either. True?

The Rio buffet was really pretty good a few years back, and I don't like buffets in general. The hotel was sold to Harrah's maybe 3 years ago. Seems that was when the buffet lost its luster.
In addition, some of the other buffets ahve raised the bar. Like Aladdin's Spice Market. Considering the daytime price is only a little more than half Bellagio's, it's even a pretty good deal.

I'm staying at the Aladdin and I've heard only good things about their buffet so I will try it.

Here's what I think of the Mirage Buffet. Go to the Paris Buffet in the morning, but then go to the Bellagio buffet for dinner! Wow

Just go back from Vegas, stayed at the Mirage, the buffet was awful. Do yourself a favor, do not eat there. Paris is wonderful.

yes i am saying skip the mirage. the greatest buffet is bellagio for dinner. for lunch you should skip buffets all together and go get a fatburger or an in-n-out burger. for bkfast, paris's buffet is the best.
