Scarlett - It's a favorite family joke that I live in hell. My parents just love telling people their daughter "went straight to hell". Yes, they're nuts.
Icpc22- Now that we've all scared you with the conditions, I have a few more thoughts and tips. First, how bad the heat actually is may depend on where you're coming from. If you're in a warmer climate already, it may not feel as bad, especially at night.
Second, even though it's still 90 at midnight, it doesn't feel as hot. Once the sun goes down, it's not as bad. I love outdoor concerts in August because it's so lovely to sit under the stars and not be cold.
Third, everything really is super air conditioned. I think most public buildings are kept in the 60-70 degree range, so if you're indoors for a long time, the first few minutes outside can feel pretty good. Of course, anything more than 5 or 10 minutes and you're ready for the air conditioning again!
Last, the car situation is manageable. You shouldn't leave stuff in your car anyway, since it makes you a target for theives. I personally have never had problems with pies melting or cds warping, but it's always a bit hot before you get the AC going. When you park, just crack your windows a smidge and make sure you have a sunshade if you're parking in the sunlight. That will greatly reduce the heat that sits in your car.
So what's your thoughts after all this feedback? Is it August or not?

Oooh yes, it IS hot. For the last many years, we've done one night in vegas in mid july on our long road trips out west since its the only time we can travel together. But everyone is different, only you will know once you do it.
The REAL question is, how badly do you want to go? If its either then or never, go! People live and survive there all year long. You can easily 'tough' it out for a few days! Go and have fun!

I was in Vegas in July a couple years ago for my 10th anniversary.. It was HOT! Every day over 100 degrees. When you walked outside from the air conditioner in the resorts, it literally took your breath away. We did Hoover Dam and me, my son and hubby each took a gallon of water with us for the walk down so we would'nt dehydrate... But you know what, I loved it and it was one of my sons best vacations.. we are headed back in 3 weeks!!!!!!!!

Ok All- I hear you. I live in the midwest and I am used to the many seasons but the heat does sound intense. On the other hand, I am thinking that there are so many things to do in LV that the heat wouldn't be as bothersome as I thought. I am planning this for my husband's 40th surprise present...he's getting another early present this week...just found out we are expecting our second child. I may be rethinking Vegas because of this now. Any thoughts out there?
