How do you get a reservation at Il Mulino?
I've been trying for a week to make a reservation at Il Mulino (a treat to myself and my husband for my 50th b'day), but the line's been busy. Is there a trick (other than going there in person which is not possible because we're in California) to getting through to make a reservation there?

Just keep trying. I found myself in the same situation. Eventually I got through and ended up canceling it that day. Also, you need about 3-4 weeks notice, depending on day of week and time of reservation and time of year though. Good luck. I hope it's worth the effort you put it!

It took me three weeks, but I got through! And even though our trip isn't until the first weekend in December, the only times they had left were 10:30! We've decided to opt for lunch instead. It had better be worth all the hassle ---

Be sure to go very, very hungry. Our meal was horrible, but there sure was a whole lot of it -- biggest portions I've ever seen, including rack of "baby lamb" for one that was something like 15 chops the size of horse's ribs. Unfortunately it was also tons of fat and tasted old. The rest of the meal was bad too, but I've always guessed I hit a really off night. On the other hand someone there had to buy those "baby lamb" racks who didn't know what he was doing either.

Try calling around 10:00 am. I booked reservations fairly easy for lunch with about 2-3 weeks notice. Lunch was very nice and certainly a lot less expensive than dinner (still pricey). To this day, it was one of the best meals I've ever eaten. FYI - the day I had lunch, you probably could have walked in around 1:30 and been seated. Enjoy!

Add me to the small list of folks who think Il Mulino is overpriced and overrated. It's all about quantity not quality and the place has far too much attitude. Most overcooked pasta I've ever had and the veal was tough and fatty! I've been taken there three times for business dinners and each time I think it's worse, but the other guys like to sit there and rave about the huge servings.
