Impatient:

The best thing to do is take a mini-vacation one weekend. A day or overnight trip that would be about a 2 hr drive from you. People plan and travel so much in advance and go to totally new places that they never consider their home states as destination. I would like to tour Pennsylvania this summer more than ever, it's such a beautiful state.

UMM, I don't think we have to reflect on our blessings just because others don't have a job...

How ridiculous.

Try not to think about your vacation because it's over before you know it.
This way, it won't be so "anti-climactic"
excuse the expression but......

I work OT to pay for the vacation, so no time to dream about it

What a great thread! Token Guy--hubb would totally agree with your post .
He thinks I'm a nut for doing and getting SO excited about travel research (which for us isn't too exotic) but he also enjoys my enthusiasm AND the results of the research. Part of our waiting is WAITING for the not very frequent times my Mom can kidsit, yes we do family trips but feel like we need a few more weekends for JUST us two!

I do what Kal does - 182 to New Awlins!

Oh, and I drive my husband nuts hashing it over and checking for bargains, coupons, information etc.
(Leave it alone, Kal!)

All these ideas are great!
Margie, your "milestone" plan will work great!
I'm planning a trip out west, including Vegas, so we must rent Chevy Chase's family vacation movie to Vegas. Gotta find out the actual name...
An upcoming trip is always a good excuse to shop!
Thanks to all who are responding to this post, it's nice to know I'm not alone. Oh, and Danna--I think we are soul mates!! I laughed out loud when I read your post!
Have a great day all. Impatient

I once took a bouquet of balloons to my hubby. 3 balloons with 1,0,0 written on them, tied to a Corona bottle, with a lime attached. He couldn't open it at the office of course, but he appreciated the thought.
