How do you cope with "waiting for vacation"??

Am waiting and waiting for my vacation this June.
How do you all cope with "the wait"?
I've read all the information I can find regarding our destination. I've reserved all that can be reserved.
It's a whole 3 months still to go. Anticipation is a wonderful thing, I know, but...
What now???

Drink heavily and it will all be a blur by the time you leave.

Impatient...I know exactly how you feel! I try to cope by planning the next few vacations. St. Barths in May, Nantucket in July and Provence June 2003. If I stay three ahead of the game, then I'm always doing research, thinking about travel and having fun.

I usually go on a well known travel web and annoy people with my vacation countdown.

You guys are all too funny! I absolutely obsess about my upcoming trip (Hawaii - 22 days till Aloha). Once I feel there is nothing left to worry about, I start planning the next trip (Vegas end of May, quick 4 day jaunt over to Clearwater for the Fourth of July weekend, then possibly Seattle end of August!) Life is short so we live for our vacations!

Something that helps me it's plan activities marking the milestones. For example we are going to Disney in April and we just had a disney party marking 1 more month to go. We order pizza, talked about the trip, made some plans of what we wanted to see and do once we get there and end it the party opening the big sofabed and watching a Disney Movie. The girls (6 and 2) had a great time and we (30 and 31) did too. I am planing the next one for two weeks before and then another one two days before. It's a lot of fun!!

I'm already planning the next one too and we just got back from Disney last week! My husband just found out he has to go to London and Paris in April (I know, how awful), so guess who's tagging along? That's right, as soon as I nail down those dates I'll be a pain in the neck over on the Europe Board.

Gayle, we'll be in ACK in July too, where are you staying? We'll be on Hummock Pond near Cisco. I keep looking at the picture of the house 'cause I can't wait!

Impatient, try to find a website about your destination and inquire about the most insignificant minutia of your upcoming trip. That might kill some time!

Nina,
This is our first time to ACK. It's our 15th wedding anniversary and we decided to rent a cottage (Beach Plum) in Sconset, just across from the beach. It looks very nice and charming. It's new on the market this year and just renovated. We rented through Edith Delker. Any suggestions you have would be welcome, especially regarding restaurants. I searched the site and have read reviews and have a preliminary list. You can email me direct at [email protected]. Thanks.

I agree with everyone. The best way to cope until your vacation is to read travel websites, research and plan your trip and think about your next trip. I just got back from New Orleans and I am already planning my summer vacation. Can't wait!!
Have fun!

I feel better knowing there are others with this disease.

I read/planned/studied/reserved/fretted/shopped/etc for 6 months before my trip to Paris in Sept '01. Then, after we had to cancel it, I have done the same continuously for the (re-scheduled)May '02 Paris trip. I've been boring the hell out of my friends and family for a year now. "Blah, Blah, Blah Paris...Blah, Blah,Blah, Guy Savoy....Blah,Blah,Blah first class upgrade." I'm surprised someone hasn't killed me yet.

I am barely controlling myself actually.I would like to post a Pre-trip report...but then I would be banned from these boards for at least Life~
I am only going away for a few days, imagine what shape I will be in for the big trip later in the year...

this is a great post! We had planned for Hawaii in September and after doing the figuring decided it was just too expensive to do right then. So found a cheaper package just to get away to Cabo. That was in September. Guess what got cancelled? So in May we are going to Cayman. I can't wait! I too have read everything there is to read, surfed the web every day for anything regarding 'Cayman' and keep hitting those Caribbean and Fodor's message boards! The only one good thing about the wait is that I'm still trying to lose a few pounds!

Well, I make packing lists... take long walks and think about what to pack. Then I break it down into total days, weeks, and work days (since they are the ones that seem the longest) I have a mark off calendar at my office and it's the happiest moment of the morning when I can mark another day off! We are on our way to Kenya Amsterdam and NYC in a scant 14 working days!! And I am about to explode... can I leave now???
In short, you are not alone.

We leave for our first trip to Phoenix in 12 very long days. And I am sooo glad to know that people get just as excited as I am. I have to think of ways to make myself not think about it. Crazy wouldn't you say!!

I know exactly what you mean! Waiting is agonizing, but I'm a destination junkie. We haven't even gone on this summer's trip, and my mind is already jumping ahead to next summer! On the bright side, I save us loads of money and time by knowing what, when and where to book, and what to avoid. I've even surprised the locals by knowing where to go before they can suggest things! I know loads of people who hate travel research, but can't relate. Maybe people like us would have a prosperous future as travel agents!

I can't help but notice that almost everyone responding to this thread is a woman. I will admit that I don't get quite as wired MYSELF as I used to in anticipation of trips, although I still look forward to them and they are a big part of our life. But the unbridled enthusiasm of my partner and her ability to get REALLY excited about upcoming adventures is a great reward. Good for all of you who add that part to the equation -- it's big and it is probably appreciated more than you know!
