Carmel w/kids

Which B&B's welcome kids (ages 8&15) or what other accommodations in this area do you recommend for 2-3 night stay early April. Is whale watching available now, should we take boat to see? other suggestions? Will be coming from 4 days in SF .

Deb, I have no personal experience with this place, but I have this book called "California With Kids" and it lists a b&b in Carmel good for families called the Cobblestone Inn on Junipero Ave., phone is 831/625-5222. This book is a few years old so maybe someone else can comment here with more experience. I will tell you that we tried to book our family in Clint Eastwood's hotel called Mission Ranch and they were decidedly against us bringing our kids. It's too bad because they have cottages with kitchens and acres for kid to roam around. Maybe they have changed their tune since two years ago. Good luck!

By law they can't bar you from bringing kids, but they can make it pretty apparent that they really don't want them. Carmel Village Inn is well located and kid friendly and The Wayside Inn should be good as well--they have little kitchenettes and one bedroom suites at very reasonable (Carmel) prices. Carmel is not a great place for kids--Monterey has more of interest, but do take them to Pt. Lobos State Park and down to the pretty Carmel City Beach. All hotels in Monterey would be fine for kids and they can bring skateboards or rent bikes to ride on the bike path along the bay. Kayaks are available to take out into the bay with the sea otters.

Deb - We took our gang on the whale watch out of the Monterey Pier on www.montereywhalewatch.com. The web site lists daily sightings for the last two years so you can get a feel for how busy it may be during your trip...

It cost $40 pp but it was worth every penny! Have fun.

i'd stay in montery instead of carmel. you can go visit carmel for a few hours. carmel is very slow and i think of retirees, galleries and fancy restaurants. don't get me wrong, it's beautiful but i think kids would enjoy monterey more. i also would be looking at a hotel with a pool & hottub instead of a b & b. (but that's based on my kids' likes!!!)
