Houston to Nola road trip opinions wanted.
If you had ten days to visit family and see a bit of Houston's highlights, would it be feasible to rent a car and drive to Nawlins, vs. flying? We'd do this in mid March. I would like to know how long the drive is, and what there is to see along the way. Thanks again.

I've made the drive between Houston and NOLA several times. It is the longest and most boring stretch of I-10 in the entire country...and I enjoy driving trips. Trust me...fly if you can. Southwest always has specials between the two.

Statia, I assume you've never driven I-10 between Houston and El Paso then. MUCH more boring. I've driven every inch of I-10 between New Orleans and Santa Monica, and without a doubt the west Texas portion was the dullest.
Having said that, this is a roughly eight-hour drive we're discussing. Some of it is dull, some is kind of pretty. The LSU campus is lovely, I think. The Atchafalaya Swamp Causeway portion of I-10 is sort of neat, but nothing exciting. Really, I'd also fly (and I say that having relatives all over that part of Louisiana-- I'd have them come meet me in N'awlins!!).

It's about 5 hours each way, if you drive straight and fast. Not much to see along they way. Several casinos in or around Lake Charles, and plantation homes between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
If you have time, take US90 between NO and Lafayette for one leg of the trip, and you can visit the Tabasco plant at Avery Island.

Hehhee... Official mileage is about 350 miles. Speed limit is 65MPH for the first 60 miles or so, then mostly 70MPH until close to NO, and through the cities (except the Atchafalaya Causeway, which is 60MPH I believe, for about 25 miles).
I tend to drive a bit faster than others, , so it's 5 hours for me. When the speed limit was still 55/65, and when I was driving a slower car, it took about 6.
I say 5.5 is about right for most.
