Did you check out all the suggestions we gave you on this other thread?
http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...1&tid=35152295
Eg, the DoubleTree near Bayside Expo, BW Adams in Quincy, Hotel Indigo in Newton, or even Hawthorne hotel in Salem?

BTW, it's really too bad that you didn't book any place 2 weeks ago when you first ran into trouble finding affordable lodgings in Boston.
Sept & early October is high season for Boston - weather is nice, school is back in session (lots of parents weekend).
I did find availability for you at the La Quinta in Somerville. Reviews are so-so, but it's at an affordable $179/night and probably the closest location among the ones that are still available and fit your budget. It is pretty close to the Sullivan T Station (on the Orange line), and the hotel provides a shuttle to the station if you don't feel like walking there.
I'd choose Somerville over Quincy, or Newton, and definitely over Salem.

What's the definition of "anything"?
Hotwire has a 2* in the Brookline/Newton/Harvard area for $169 for 9/20-23. That's pretty central by Boston defintion.
And you have tried bidding on Priceline up to the amount you want to pay?

I have no idea, but it may not be any of the chain hotels, as it has zero amenities listed on HW, other than "non-smoking".
Hotwire also has a 3* in your old hangout of Medford/Somerville for $179. But that's almost certain to be right by I-93 and will be even harder to get to the downtown areas.
BTW, that 2* is now $175.

Perhaps that 3* Medford/Somerville is the LQ Someville which I had posted earlier today. That area is risky with regards to public transportation as most of it is not served by the T (except the area around Sullivan Sq which is served by the Orange line. Only a HI and the LQ is nearby that station).

I just have to say that anyone who has criticized Fodorites in the past should note that this OP (who started asking for help >1 month ago, and did not follow through, in spite of clear advice about the scarcity of affordable Boston hotel rooms ) has received upwards of 30 + offers of additional helpful suggestions! That is so above and beyond. Quite honestly, I do not mean to be unkind, but I must say that the helpful Fodorites seem to be more invested in solving her problem than she does.

At this late date, for that popular weekend, I'm willing to believe that there's nothing available in Boston for that price.
In an earlier thread, OP mentioned that she's driving up from New Jersey with a group of 3 or 4 people so I expect she'll have a car. Several national chains have places in Braintree that would be suitable: Holiday Inn Express ($126), Candlewood Suites ($131), Extended Stay America ($150).

Not that there isn't any hotel at all.
