Did you check out all the suggestions we gave you on this other thread?
http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=35152295

Eg, the DoubleTree near Bayside Expo, BW Adams in Quincy, Hotel Indigo in Newton, or even Hawthorne hotel in Salem?

yk Sep 5th, 2008 11:01 AM

BTW, it's really too bad that you didn't book any place 2 weeks ago when you first ran into trouble finding affordable lodgings in Boston.

Sept & early October is high season for Boston - weather is nice, school is back in session (lots of parents weekend).

I did find availability for you at the La Quinta in Somerville. Reviews are so-so, but it's at an affordable $179/night and probably the closest location among the ones that are still available and fit your budget. It is pretty close to the Sullivan T Station (on the Orange line), and the hotel provides a shuttle to the station if you don't feel like walking there.

I'd choose Somerville over Quincy, or Newton, and definitely over Salem.

Travelzoo had an offer for a new Starwood property, Aloft in Lexington for $99.00 /night

Is every hotel taken that was suggested to you in the prior thread? If so, then move to the Braintree area and there are a slew of options only a 5 minute car ride to the Quincy T or Brainteree T lots and try those

Staying in Lexington is not practical, unless the OP will have a car and plan to drive into the city everyday.

wyatt92 Sep 5th, 2008 12:02 PM

I checked your dates and the Bulfinch Hotel in Boston has availability for $219/night. I'd book it ASAP.

yk Sep 5th, 2008 12:06 PM

wyatt - I thought the OP needs a hotel from Sept 20-23? I checked Bulfinch's website and it's sold out on 9/20, 9/22 & 9/23.

???

wyatt92 Sep 5th, 2008 01:41 PM

I checked on hotels.com and it had availability.

yk Sep 5th, 2008 01:48 PM

When I went to hotels.com, Bulfinch comes up as a "sponsored link" but when I clicked on it and entered the dates, it says it has no availability.

wyatt92 Sep 5th, 2008 04:16 PM

yk, I really didn't investigate it too thoroughly, as I was just doing a cursory search to help the OP.

What's the definition of "anything"?

Hotwire has a 2* in the Brookline/Newton/Harvard area for $169 for 9/20-23. That's pretty central by Boston defintion.

And you have tried bidding on Priceline up to the amount you want to pay?

yk Sep 5th, 2008 07:05 PM

rkkwan - any idea what that 2* is? I'm concerned it may be the Days Inn on Soldiers Field Rd. That's no man's land.

rkkwan Sep 5th, 2008 07:22 PM

I have no idea, but it may not be any of the chain hotels, as it has zero amenities listed on HW, other than "non-smoking".

Hotwire also has a 3* in your old hangout of Medford/Somerville for $179. But that's almost certain to be right by I-93 and will be even harder to get to the downtown areas.

BTW, that 2* is now $175.

yk Sep 5th, 2008 07:30 PM

Perhaps that 3* Medford/Somerville is the LQ Someville which I had posted earlier today. That area is risky with regards to public transportation as most of it is not served by the T (except the area around Sullivan Sq which is served by the Orange line. Only a HI and the LQ is nearby that station).

I just have to say that anyone who has criticized Fodorites in the past should note that this OP (who started asking for help >1 month ago, and did not follow through, in spite of clear advice about the scarcity of affordable Boston hotel rooms ) has received upwards of 30 + offers of additional helpful suggestions! That is so above and beyond. Quite honestly, I do not mean to be unkind, but I must say that the helpful Fodorites seem to be more invested in solving her problem than she does.

suze Sep 6th, 2008 10:37 AM

I can't believe every single hotel in Boston in that price range is full. How are your searching? If you are using a generalized booking website, you might try contacting hotels directly instead.

rkkwan Sep 6th, 2008 10:51 AM

The OP means she can't find a hotel that's up to her comfort level and is convenient to get to town, at that price range. ;) Not that there isn't any hotel at all.

Anonymous Sep 6th, 2008 01:27 PM

At this late date, for that popular weekend, I'm willing to believe that there's nothing available in Boston for that price.

In an earlier thread, OP mentioned that she's driving up from New Jersey with a group of 3 or 4 people so I expect she'll have a car. Several national chains have places in Braintree that would be suitable: Holiday Inn Express ($126), Candlewood Suites ($131), Extended Stay America ($150).

Hi,

Did you try the Holiday Inn in Brookline? It may be more than you want to spend, but a good location. Also there are some B&Bs in Brookline. I do not know the names of these places, but google it. Good luck.
