Hotel Recommendations

My husand and I will be traveling to NY this spring and would like to stay in a centrally located hotel. I have been reading some past reviews of large hotels such as the Waldorf and boutique hotels such as the Library Hotel. Both locations have received mixed reviews and since they are on both ends of the spectrum it is making the decision making process much tougher. I don't know whether to selec a large/chain hotel or a boutique hotel. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I last stayed at the Belvedere Hotel. Great value for the price. It's of W. 48th between 8th and 9th Avenue. Rooms were very large and newly decorated.

Banana89:
In order for posters to give you the best advice, you need to give some more info.
What is your budget? Are You looking to spend the least possible? What is your nightly budget? $100,125,150,200/nt?
Additionally, what things in a hotel are important to the both of you? Do you like to have a nice, large lobby? Do you use workout facilities? Do you want a traditional styling, or a more modern, hip hotel? Are you looking for a luxury stay, or the best budget, bargain hotel? Areyou planning to go to the theater alot, or maybe just 1 show? Where are you from? Are you from a large or small city? People from other large cities may prefer a hotel in a quieter section of town, since they are 'used' to hustle & bustle and not necessarly looking for that when they stay in NYC. All this info will help people give you the recommendations that will suit you & your husbands interests.

Thank you Liz for the recommendation and Anthony for questions that will help us receive better lodging suggestions. As far as preferences go, we'd like to spend somewhere between $150-$250 a night, (the Waldorf and Library Hotel I mentioned in my first post were within that range). The things that are important to us in a hotel are: service, comfort, cleanliness, room size, location. We will probably only catch a couple of shows. What we are really looking forward to is discovering great food, some shopping and museums/historical sights. We are from the San Francisco bay area and do not mind the hustle and bustle of city life. Once again I appreciate any help/recommendations!

I would suggest The Palace Hotel, on Madison Ave at 50th St as one of the nicest in town. Close to everything and beautiful rooms and great service.

Have fun while you are here.
