Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip for families?

Hello, my husband and I and our two kids are heading to Las Vegas for one night in April on our way to the Grand Canyon and are looking for a clean, nice hotel near or on the strip. We just need one room with 2 queen (or even double) beds. I was hoping to find something for under $150/night -- Am I dreaming? Also, any suggestions for what we should do while we are there other than just wandering around the strip? Thanks

The MGM would be a good choice for the kids. They can see the lions on display and it is right ont he Strip. You might be able to find it in your budget. New York, New york would also be a fun place for the kids. I would avoid Circus Circus & Excalibur as far as staying there, they are a bit rundown and really overrun with kids usually, but they would be fun places for the kids to visit.

NYNY or MGM on the South Strip, maybe one of the Coast or Station casinos off strip. We liked the Orleans.

Not sure if it's still this way but a couple of years ago, the Flamingo was the only hotel that wasn't charging $25 or $30 extra for each child in the room. So we went with Flamingo and it was fine. As far as the price, you're not dreaming as long as it's not a Fri or Sat night.

Yes, as long as it isn't a Friday or Saturday night, you hopefully will find some options in your price range. I would nail down the date and start checking, cause there could be conventions and a potential Spring Break factor.

Take a look at the Hilton Grand Vacations Club at the Flamingo. It is behind the Flamingo, so it is close to the strip. You have access to the Flamingo pool (maybe not in April). They have suites with a small kitchen, hot tub, washer/dryer. I think they have two-bedded rooms.

Look into Embassy Suites, it's just off the Strip and they have two room "suites". Most Vegas hotels charge extra for anything more then two in a room so be prepared if you go for a strip hotel.

You already have a couple of good ideas here but I will add to this list:

Orleans is a great value off the strip and definately under your price. For more "WOW" factor, consider the Monte Carlo. Family friendly, good location, not overly crowded and easy to navigate. I highly recommend taking the kids (of any age) to Lance Burtons show at Monte Carlo if you are looking for entertainment options.

If you'll be there M-T you should find a room in many places for far less than that. If Friday or Saturday you'll pay double that.

Register with hotels like the Venetian at their sites (I'd consider it a good family hotel as far as family hotels go in Vegas) or Mandalay Bay, Paris, etc, and they'll email you specials. On certain dates you can get the Venetian for $129...just depends on your times.

Not a heck of lot for families to do in Vegas except see a show, eat and shop, wander around looking at the hotels. There's a roller coaster at NYNY your kids might enjoy and lots of games.

If you're going at a time when rates are really high in Vegas, there is a brand new and huge Fairfield Inn that should be pretty nice and reasonably priced. That'd be the first "economy" place I'd look at.

Thanks everyone, this ought to get me started. The idea of registering at hotel's websites for specials is great.

The Fairfield Grand Desert is actually part of the Wyndham Timeshare group. We stayed there for a week in June. It's a short drive or super-long walk from the strip (between Aladdin and Hard Rock) and it is an ideal location for a family. I don't know how you get it for one night as a hotel room, though.

These three hotels are family-friend hotels in Las Vegas.

Excalibur
This hotel/casino's architecture was inspired by castles in England, Scotland, and Germany. It's full of family-friendly attractions such as the Fantasy Faire, a dark but very large video arcade, and the Court Jester's Stage, where magicians and puppeteers entertain small audiences. Kids love to climb the dragons outside the Sherwood Forest Cafe, and the Tournament of Kings is one of the few family-oriented entertainment extravaganzas in town. Avoid taking a room in Tower 2 if you want to sleep before 11 p.m.

Treasure Island
If your kids like Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean ride, they will love this resort based on the tales of Robert Louis Stevenson. There's a pirate-ship battle staged on Buccaneer Bay, a lagoon facing the Strip, and inside there are plenty of talking skeletons and treasure chests. The resort also boasts a large pool and game arcade and is home to Mystere, the Cirque du Soleil production many consider the best show in town.

MGM Grand
This huge hotel has the feel of an international airport as guests wander through its giant casino and adjacent restaurant row, theme park, and shopping mall. If you want to enjoy a few hours without the kids along, you can drop them off to be entertained at the 3,000-square-foot MGM Youth Center; it's the only licensed child-care facility on the Strip and accommodates children ages 3 to 12 for up to five hours. Activities include sports, arts, and video games. Hourly fees vary.

We also stayed one night in LV on way to Grand Canyon. Flamingo worked for us - it is central so we could do a little walking with our kids, pools and birds were great (flamingos and penguins). As far as what to do, after late afternoon arrival from East Coast (so it felt later than it was), walk, time in pool, dinner - we chose to leave right after breakfast and stop at Hoover Dam.

Just FYI, the "pirate" show has been, for several years, a T&A show.
