hotel near the cruise ships in Manhattan

Hi I am trying to help my 78 yr old energetic mother find a hotel near the cruise ships(Manhattan Cruise Ships) for one night. Like a Hilton or Marriott. She leaves on the Holland America in September and I am not familiar with that area can anybody help me?
Thank you

The "hotels" the closest to the cruise cruise ports are more rented out by the "hour" so pretty sure that's not want Mom is gonna want. The closest Hilton would be the Times Square Hilton, and it's a fairly short cab ride from there. There's also a Westin on 8th and 45th that might work, and the Grand Hyatt on 7th and 44th.

Hope this helps.

I think the closest Marriott is the Marriott Marquis at 46th/7th.

The above are fine as long as the ship is leaving from a berth in Manhattan. But NY harbor also has cruise ships docking in Red Hook Brooklyn and New Jersey. Have you confirmed that it is actually a Manhattan - versus just New York dock?

Without a doubt, stay at the new hotel Ink48. It's very close to the west side cruise ships, and it's not in Times Square, a major bonus.

Sorry got the Marriott and Hyatt confused for some reason, yes of COURSE the Marrott is on 7th and 46Th and very nice, great views of the city. Be easy for her to catch a cab there to the dock and she would have lots of help from hotel staff as well. Great views of the area from the upper floors.

The Marriott is good as is Hilton Garden Inn, 790 Eighth Avenue, at 52nd street.

Any hotel in midtown near the theater district or Penn Station is a short taxi ride to the Manhattan cruise pier. The hiltons or Marriotts are just fine for one night.

Thank you for your replies I have checked out the hotels they are on the Manhattan side. For some reason the night they are staying is a busy night, they are also budget conscious because they would rather blow there money coming back and stay in the village to visit my son who goes to NYU on there way back, so I think they are going to stay at the Affinia...the Marriots and other chains were too much.....I wish I looked into that Ink hotel but now I know....now I will look into the village. My husband and I always stay at the W union square but that might be pricey for Mom and friend any suggestions around Cornelia street?

Which Affinia hotel did you choose? To be honest, it doesn't matter much in terms of location. You can get to the cruise pier in Manhattan from almost anywhere in the city in a taxi for under $20, so it's not horribly expensive. If they do want to save a few bucks on the transportation and don't mind walking across the street with their luggage, they can take a taxi to the West Side Highway between 49th and 50th Streets and just get off there. The entry to the pier is directly across the street, and this saves about $5 or $6 over the cost of taking a taxi into the pier area itself.

Closest hotel to Cornelia Street that I can think of is the Washington Square Hotel.

Doug, it was the Affinia Manhattan. They just need one night and it is a 5 or 10 minute cab ride they... MOM and friend were on my back to book something and I told them how prices are not cheap. I thought I got a good price, 330 including tax I think? They were happy since everything on that particular day is booked....really weird. Anyway now I think I am going to book them into the Hilton tribeca on way back, the friend leaves next day and my mother will then go stay 2 nights at my sons 2 bedroom apartment on the quaintest, most beautiful, homey location in the west village. Cornelia street. He will sleep on a couch and she gets his bed. His apartment location is a dream and his complex is small but so comfortable. She said the money she saves will be spent on dinners out with a hungry student and he is happy!!!!

Friends stayed at the Washington Square hotel about 5 years ago and thought it was fine. Nothing fancy, but good location in Greenwich Village. Check Tripadvisor for recent reviews.

The Affinia Manhattan is not their best hotel, but it's fine for one night, and they could walk a couple of blocks and have some Korean bbq if they are even slightly adventurous. Otherwise, there's not much good food nearby.
