We're planning an extended family trip to the Brooklyn Heights area in mid September and would like to find a reasonably priced hotel--$100 to $150. All suggestions welcome.

I'm afraid your budget is not even remotely possible. Think double or more likely triple. The Aloft Hotel fir instance starts at $260. The Holiday Inn Express is similar. For this rate you are going to have to cast a much wider net. But I have no recommendations. And it's so last minute that you are unlikely to find something in Queens. It's high season in NYC and demand is strong thus fall.

This is nearly impossible unless you luck out on a Priceline/hotwire type of blind hotel selection that finds an unsold room that fits your needs. NYC hotels in your price range are either lodgings run by charitable organizations (Leo House) that are Spartan on their best days, or are fleabags. Your budget is not reasonable for a respectable hotel in NYC, even the lowest priced brand of a major chain (like Holiday Inn Express or Aloft).

Thanks for the reality check. I'm not familiar with Aloft. Which hotel is nicer. And what's the neighborhood around the Holiday Inn Express like (i.e., will it scare my 87 year old mother in law).

Must you be in Bklyn. Heights? Would you consider Long Island City?

Most of these hotels are in downtown Brooklyn, which is close to Brooklyn Heights and not scary. There are no hotels in Brooklyn Heights. Can I ask why this area in particular? It's not the normal tourist stop. Unfortunately it is also fairly distant and difficult to reach from Querns, where there are more reasonably priced hotels.

Also you need to be prepared to pay $30 per day if you need to park.

How many of you are there? Priceline only provides a room with one double bed - for 2 people. If there are more than 2 of you - you will need to use a service that allows you to indicate how many people there are.

Also max in a NYC Hotel room is 4 people - due to fire laws. Five or more people (and yes, kids count) will have to take a suite or 2 rooms.

Agree that staying near Brooklyn Heights really restricts you choices. Is that truly a must - or can you do downtown Manhattan?

The Marriott Brooklyn Bridge is on the edge of Brooklyn Heights. The least expensive Brooklyn hotel in a decent location is the Super 8 in Park Slope. Their rooms are only big enough for 2 people. They do include breakfast.

The financial district in Manhattan is close to Brooklyn Heights and if you're only coming for a weekend, you might be able to get a deal down there but not $150. There's ferry service on nywatertaxi.com between Manhattan's South Street Seaport and DUMBO in Brooklyn. The Hampton Inn Seaport and Best Western Seaport are very good hotels with large rooms and breakfast. Included.

quikbook.com often advertises Gild Hall, near the Seaport in lower Manhattan, at discounted rates. I stayed there last October on a quikbook discount offer for $149.00 a night before taxes and fees. Rooms only accommodate 2 people.
