We are travelling from Port Huron Mi to Boston Ma. through Ontario and NY. I figure Syracuse is about half way. I would like suggestions on a good hotel. We will be travelling with an 8 yr old who likes to swim.

Hamton Inn, Ramada, Red Roof, Mariott have hotels in SYracuse. THere is also a Wyndham (not p[art of the Chain).Alll have pools.

Residence Inn's often have good weekend rates. Great breakfast too.

My sister's wedding in 1994 took place at a Holiday Inn right off I-90 and I stayed there over the weekend. You'd have to call 1-800-holiday for details. It did have an exercise room and a pretty nice sized indoor pool.

Hotwire is currently offering a suites type hotel that includes a pool area and breakfast - price is $56. They don't reveal name of hotel until you commit to purchase but I know the area very well and am certain it must be the Embassy Suites, near Carrier Circle just off Rte 90. There are two other suites type hotel in that area (both less than five years old and very nice properties but neither has a pool). Regular price at Embassy is $99-$119 on weekends. Priceline regualarly has inventory of either the Wyndham (was a Marriot until a few years ago) or Embassy Suites and the rooms typically go for $45 on Priceline (plus $5.95 service charge - I'd stick to Hotwire). No guarantee that it's Embassy they're offering on Hotwire but there are not other three * hotels in the entire area (excluding the Hotel Syracuse in downtown Syracuse but Hotwire shows no availability for that zone). There are plenty of decent and moderately priced properties in the Carrier Circle area but only a few with a pool. The Holiday Inn at that location is okay but not great - IMHO has seen better days (my employer's Syracuse location sometimes houses visiting employees there although no one has really complained about it they don't praise it either). The Red Roof there is okay (I haven't noticed the pool but haven't really looked). The Hampton is nice (right across from the Embassy Suites) but friends who have stayed there commented that the soundproofing was inadequate and the highway noise (it's next to Rte 90) was very distracting. I have stayed at Embassy Suites and it was very quiet.

We have stayed at that Embassy Suites many times . It is a great family hotel and I highly recommend it!

Have stayed often at Red Roof - which has no pool!

We stayed at the Embassy Suites, near Carrier Circle just last Sept. We are light sleepers. The side of the Hotel away from the freeway is much beter for a good nights sleep.

Best hotel in town is the Sheraton on campus. If you don't need to go into town, suggest you stay at hampton inn or other property near the highway, as navigating in town can be a challenge.

And, since you didn't ask, there are only two places to eat in Syracuse: Molly Mcguires Irish pub, or the Dinosaur Barbeque!

The Sheraton at the University is a nice hotel but not a good choice if you're just passing through and looking for a place to stay for the night. Not sure if they even have a pool.

Dinosaur BBQ is fun and the food's pretty good (especially the pulled pork which is excellent) but it can be a long wait for a table and they don't tale reservations. Not familar with Molly McGuire's but Syracuse has many good dining selections in a variety of categories. If you want suggestions just post back here or start a new thread on that topic. I no longewr live in Syracuse b

This past weekend my son's baseball team stayed at a new hotel, the Hilton Garden Hotel which is located just off Carrier Circle. It just opened in April, is clean and nicely decorated and the staff was very helpful. It has a small indoor pool.

Forgot about the new Hilton - it is nice and also in a quiet spot. A few corrections (to mine and other replies): - the Hampton is in a quiet spot - it's the Fairfield that's noisy (and is across from Embassy Suites). There is definitely no pool at Fairfield, Hampton or the Red Roof - I was at Embassy today and drove by them to check. Restaurants - avoid the Green onion which is right by all the hotels - not so great and pricey for what you get. Grimaldi's is very good but pricey Italian near the hotels. Pronto Joey's is moderate but good Italian just off Carroer Circle next to Red Roof Inn on Thompson Rd North.

I went on the Hilton website and found a program called Easy Escapes. The room was $179 but with Easy Escapes I got it for $79! How do you get Easy Escapes? Just ask for it, you don't have to sign up or anything. The ticket agent on the phone could not believe the discount. Thank yoou all for your help. I'll post when we come back and let you know how it was.

I highly recommend the Embassy Suites on Carrier Circle.

It was the site of my junior after-prom party in 1992. Those were wild times...

If I knew my suite number I would tell you to avoid it...but I cant remember
