Hotel in Santa Monica or Beverly Hills?

We will be in So. Cal for 4 days and are looking for a good location. Recommendations have included The Ambrose, The Mosaic Hotel, Sheraton Delfina and The Huntley. We would like a nice place without breaking the bank. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Funky and fun, have a look at the Farmer's Daughter across the street from the Farmers Market and CBS studios - http://www.farmersdaughterhotel.com

There is now a Kimpton Hotel Palomar in Westwood, which is close to both Santa Monica & Beverly Hills. Sometimes you can get pretty good special rates on those.

Be sure to factor parking cost in if you are renting a car.

I stayed at the Elan Hotel near the Beverly Center (Mall) for the recent LA GTG. Small , trendy hotel, similar to Kimpton hotels. Very comfortable room. Free wine and cheese in the afternoons and free breakfast in the lobby in the morning. Nice staff. No pool. Great neighborhood. I paid about $149 a night + tax for a room with two queen beds.
