Hotel for 2 girlfriends in Napa Area

Hello all~

I am hoping that you all will be able to help us find an appropriate hotel. My best friend and I (we're both 28) will be visiting the Napa area for a weekend in mid-March. I was there with my fiance last May and we spent some good amount of time doing wine tastings and we stayed at the Napa River Inn, which was GREAT! However, since I'm going with my friend this time, I'm not really looking for something romantic. Also, since we will be traveling up and down Highway 29 and the Silverado Trail, I was wondering if there a better city to stay in than Napa, which is all the way South. I did enjoy the number of restaurants and bars that were in Napa and we'd like to be able to walk to places to eat and drink after the wineries are closed. Are there places in Yountville/Rutherford that aren't romantic? I know its a strange request, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Why not stay in Calistoga? My women friends and I plan an annual trip to Doc Wilkinson's and book a spa package. They have mud baths and massages on premise. I understand they've upgraded the rooms. The day you arrive, "taste" your way up the valley, check in (book your bath/massage ahead of time). Calistoga is a pedestrian-friendly town--walk to the local boutiques, dinner (we usually have drinks & apps at one place and move on to another for dinner, desert). The next day you can either taste your way back down the valley, or head over the Petrified Forest Road to Sonoma. In Calistoga we like Wappo's. Also, lunch at Greystone is always fun.

Hi - Not cheap, but the Vintner's Inn is a nice place and near the wineries. I agree that there are several places in Calistoga that would work. If you wanted to try Sonoma wines rather than Napa, there is the Ramekins B&B in Sonoma, there is a Best Western in Sonoma, the Dry Creek Inn in Healdsburg, the Grape Leaf Inn B& B in Healdsburg. For walking to/from dinner in the evening, both Sonoma and Healdsburg might have more to offer than Yountville.

Calistoga tends to have more reasonable rate choices. Our friends have enjoyed Washington Street Lodging which is just down the street from Wappo Bistro (also one of my favorites). Calistoga Inn and Spa is another place to check out for the spa facilities with motel. Also, the town of St Helena has a couple of older motels, decent, above storefronts on Main Street. Call one of the Napa Valley Visitor Bureaus or Reservation services about these )sorry - can't remember the names. All of these places are within walking distance of restaurants, shopping, bars, etc. Another one is El Bonita Motel in St Helena - very nice, reasonable. For more info try www.napavalley.com

Yountville and The Railway Inn.
http://www.napavalleyrailwayinn.com/

No phones tho so you'll need a cell phone.

Funky inexpensive place and within very short (like across the street or parking lot) walking distances to Hurley's, Redd, Fr Laundry, Pac Blues Cafe, Gordon's, Bouchon's, Bistro Jeanty, PJ'S Steakhouse, Compadres, Napa Valley Grille and they all have "Kal Tested-Kal Approved Bars".
Well 'cept Fr Laundry...

Yeah, Kal - forgot about Railway Inn. That's about the most affordable place in Yountville, I think?
