Hotel for 1 night in Tupelo, MS

My husand, son (toddler), and I need a safe, clean, and reasonably priced hotel for one night in Tupelo. We will arrive after dark and probably leave fairly early the next morning. I have checked for hotel ratings but would love some more opinions about the hotels, part of town, safety, cleaniness, etc. I've only been to Tupelo once before, to see Elvis' house, and came and left on the same day. I really don't know anything at all about the area, so I would appreciate any help you can offer.

The hotels I'm considering:
Hampton Inn (1516 McCullough)
Baymont Inns and Suites (625 Spicer Drive)
Holiday Inn Express (forgot to get address!)
Microtel Inn (1532 McCullough)
Sleep Inns and Suites (1721 N. Gloster)
Wingate Inn (don't know address here either)

We stayed in the Holiday Inn Express in the fall of 2005 and were satisfied. They became our hotel of choice after a cross country trip in 2004.

All of the hotels you mention are in a safe area.

The Baymont & Holiday Inn are right next door to each other and the Sleep Inn is across the street. There is also a Courtyard by Marriott in that same area along with an Outback Steakhouse and Vanelli's Italian/Greek restaurant.

The Hampton & Microtel are next door to each other 1/2 mile from the other hotels you mention. A Shoney's restaurant is by these.

Of those above, I'd recommend either the Holiday Inn or Sleep Inn. They are much newer hotels. From all of these hotels, if you head just a few miles North on Gloster St. you'll reach the Barnes Crossing Mall area with restaurants and shopping places.

There is also a new Hilton Garden Inn located in downtown Tupelo not too far from Hwy 45. Also safe and I'd recommend it.

If you are just traveling through along Highway 78 or Highway 45 and stopping in Tupelo just to sleep I'd recommend the Wingate Inn which opened less than 1 year ago. It is located on Hwy 78 at the Veteran's Blvd. exit. If you are traveling on Hwy 45 just jump on Hwy 78 east (towards Birmingham) and it will be the 1st exit.

Thank you for all that information, Ready4avoyage! We do just need a safe and clean place to sleep for the night and plan to get on the road as soon as possible the next morning. I was leaning towards the Baymont b/c of the price but I will check into the others you recommended a little more. I'm happy to know they are all in safe areas. Thanks again!
