Hoover Dam

We will be landing in Nevada and driving to the Hoover Dam on the way to Zion. How long are the Hoover Dam tours? Any suggestions on lunch places on the way from Las Vegas to Zion?

cannot help you with Lunch places, but allow about 2 hours at the dam. Spend the extra money and take a guided tour. It is worth it.

I agree with spending the $$ on the guided tour. You can probably find a small discount coupon if you look. I did the drive to Zion from the Dam. I chose to do the "scenic" version near Lake Mead....mistake. I would advise going back to Vegas and taking I-15. St. George, UT is a good lunch place if the timing works for you.

The Hoover Dam tour is definitely worth it. We took the tour-- you get a movie/ slide show about the building of the Dam, then they bring you all the way down to the generators inside, up to the observation deck to get those post-card photos, downstairs to the exhibits, across the street to the dedication monument and then to the gift shop. We spent a good 2 hours there. (I was good after 1 1/2 hours, but the SO couldn't tear himself away.)

The ride to the Dam is about 45 min...we rented a car for the afternoon. If you watch the Discovery Channel and/or Travel channel and have seen the Making of the Dam, you may not want to do the tour. We had a great time just walking around and across the dam. Without the tour guide, you do not have the same access thru the dam. This may or may not be improtant to you. Just want you to know that you can still enojoy the dam without taking the tour if time does not allow.

Is it worth it to see the Hoover Dam after seeing the Glen Dam? Is Hoover as beautiful?
