I will be taking photos for my blog at www.myadvertiser.com/kakaako but more of people like lcuy & mari808 eating or displaying hachimaki; the dancing photos will be of Bill, Martin, and me. I already got a death threat from mari808 if I take pictures of her dancing!

The bon dance started last night, I could see the lights and hear the drums from my condo in the sky. Pray for good weather!

See the lights, hear the drums--u make it sound like night marchers! Shudders.

Did I authorize photos of me eating and displaying hachimaki???

hmmmmm my spidey sense is telling me there may be a small fracas on Sheridan St. this evening (think Sean Penn and the papparazzi)! Good thing the police patrol often due to all the K-bars in the area....should I send out a media advisory so we can make the 10:00 news?

Mari! just keep praying for good weather! there's a huge rain cloud stretching over the Koolaus, up to Wal-Mart, and it's sprinkling!!

Totally dark and drizzly up here in Manoa... But I hung my Hapi coat out on the porch (to get out the camphor smell!) and I'm ready to roll!

Going to Tea at the Moana right now though, so time to put on my girly clothes and hat.

I'll see you all at Sorobal!

Cool, cloudy and outright raining up here too. But my weather sweeps on to downtown. Lucy's weather in Manoa is what we need to watch for Keeaumoku/Sheridan.

lcuy, tea at the Moana, Korean dinner, Japanese bon dance, w/ all requisite costume changes--oh, to have ur life!

A modern day geisha!

OK well, I live across the street from Shingon Mission. It's still drizzling, but the sun has poked a hold in the clouds right over Wal-Mart.

Getting ahead of myself, esp since it takes me forever to digest a Korean meal, but since u live across the street, I hear Taishoken Ramen is the bomb, makes its own noodles and serves them separate from the enriched broth so u can dip. Ever been? If anybody's hungry after the bon dance, let's go!

Mari, I've been...it's good, not sure if I would label The Bomb! Big servings, though. When I go with my neighbor, he orders ramen & I order curry and we split.

Good times! Kuranosuke, Sarah, iamq and Marteeeeeeen joined in the dance. the 2 most experienced bon dancers--lcuy and mari808--bowed out. OK I did too, but I was busy scoping out the joint for a "nice Okinawan boy." It did pour for a bit but other than that it was great for dancing.

Oh, and our 2 California boys discovered Andagi tonight!

My report and photos will be posted tomorrow night on my blog at www.myadvertiser.com/kakaako (look for my photo and click on it).

Hey Melissa, thanks for pulling this GTG together! Amazing food at Sorabol, esp the kalbi chim, even the dregs of which were delicious. And thanks for introducing me to that tiny architectural and cultural gem of a temple in my own back yard.

Cutest moment of evening: Bill and Marteen discovering the pleasures of andagi.

Most startling: Discovering that Kuranosuke vacations in Asia four times a year.

Most mystifying: Trying to figure out how he does it on 18 vacation days per year.

great gtg melissa, had a great time. good food, the short ribs hot pot was the best.

mari, the most mystifying for me, was where you put all the food you ate. lol.

nice meeting iamq and martini, good to see lucy again, and nice meeting newcomer sarah.

Thanks Mels, for once again arranging a great GTG!

Really a pleasure meeting Iamq and Marteen and Sarah, and as usual, it was fun with locals Mari, K-suke, and Melissa !! And now Sarah is a local too!!!

I woke up still totally stuffed this morning...Love that Korean food. I should have saved room for Andagi and shave ice at the temple though...

Iama- hope you guys got home easily, and that you got to see the meteors. We'll head out in about 6 hours!

Lucy

I think I didn't eat enough--was starving by midnight. And I've been feeling bad all day bc I think I ate and drank more than anybody. I think I owe you all $1 each.

Hi folks! We arrived home a couple of hours ago and I thought of you all and the great time we had as I unpacked my hachimaki! I just hope I get to wear it again to a dance someday. Bon dancing in Palo Alto? Probably. Martin may wear his as a running headband. HA!

I will echo everyone else's thanks to Melissa for putting this together. Dinner was amazing and the bon dance was really FUN! It was great to see Mels again and to meet kuranosuke, Mari808, lcuy and Sarah. You guys are a blast! We will be back and for longer next time so you guys can show us more of your fabulous city! I woke up early that morning with hunger twinges, wishing I had bought a few more bags of andagi! Watch for a link to my photos in the next day or so. Aloha!
