I know what MY top 5 things to do on a "honeymoon" would be but not on a family forum! :-"

Type in "Kauai/Maui activities" in the search mode and you'll get a bunch.

To name a few:
A nice long sunset walk down Polihale on Kauai would be nice.
An early morning hike on the NaPali Coast, too.
Sunset dinner at The Beach House.

Congrats!!!!

I would limit my visit to one island to truly enjoy it. You'll lose a good half day travelling between the two islands flying thru Honolulu.

In Maui, make sure to go snorkeling. You can take a boat out with a lifeguard (and usually a barbeque lunch), which are really nice. We loved snorkeling at Honolua Bay and Molokini. Although we drove to Honalua Bay, then took that loop around the north west end of the island - very secluded and lovely. there's an old lady who sells banana bread and sodas that should not be missed. Have fun!

Kauai: 1) Day trip to Waimea Canyon and hiking to waterfall(s) followed by shave ice at Jo-Jo's Clubhouse on the way back; 2) Snorkeling at Ke'e Beach; 3) Dinner at the Beach House; 4) Helicopter tour; 5) Hang loose on the Poipu beaches

Maui: 1) Drive the Hana Highway while you listen to Hawaiian music - make sure you stop to swim in waterfall pools; 2)Sunrise or sunset at Haleakala crater; 3) Sunset dinner at Nick's Fishmarket at the Kea Lani in Wailea; 4) Go see 'Iao Valley; 5) Snorkel at Honolua Bay

Wtih only 5 days pick Maui or Kauai. With current security it takes to long to change islands for just a couple of days. Catch the other island on the next trip.

Will you be there IN five days, or for a total of five days???
I read it as the former.
How long will you be on each island? And in what part will you be staying? These bits of info will help with advice from Fodorites.

ALOHA!!

Kauai is by far the best island for exploring. Maui is better for just relaxing by the pool or ocean.
In Kauai, 1. helicopter ride with Air Kauai (by far one of the best experiences of my life...worth overcoming any fears of flying) 2. Hike the first 2 miles of the Na Pali coast for some of the most breathtaking views you've ever seen. End the hike with a snorkel at Ke'e Beach. 3. Take a catamaran down the Na Pali coast for views you couldn't see on the hike and great time watching dolphins. 4. Dinner at the Beach House at sunset. On Maui, 1. Have a couples massage on the beach at the Four Seasons spa, 2. Take the road to Hana, stopping at waterfalls and the black sand beach, 3. go shopping in Lahania and have a drink and dinner at sunset at Cheeseburger in Paradise or Bubba Gump's.

Congrats! On Maui go to Mamas Fush house for a great dinner. If yoiu are up for it, (no pun intended ) a hike to Haleakala to see the sunrise is one of the must do attractions. On Kaui hiking hte Na Pali coast is quite popular though when we tried it it was pretty rainy and foggy. Also consider helicopter or plane tours. Good luck, Larry
