We are coming from Houston to Boston for first two nights,one night in Salem (hopefully Marblehead??), to Cape Cod/Vineyard for our honeymoon the last week of May-first few days of June. Does anyone have any recommendations of the most romantic places to stay and eat. As we only have 8 days, the cost is secondary to niceness, comfort, and fun factor. We like to spend the days pounding the pavement, or sand, and nights relaxing with good food, music, etc. Any tips would be appreciated. I am from Maryland, but haven't spent a lot of time that far north. Thanks!

The Charlotte Inn on Martha's Vineyard is really romantic. You should try to get 3 or 4 nights on the Vineyard to relax & beach it

Rockport is a tad more "touristy" but there's a little more to do and you can poke around Cape Ann and see Gloucester (of "Perfect Storm" and Gorton's fame), Annisquam, and some of the best seafood in Essex.

Marblehead is older, more historic, but once you've "done" Old Town, there's not too much else to do.

Whichever you choose, spend at least a day at the other place.

Tracey, Martha's Vineyard is ok..but don't go down to Cape cod....Provincetown has a bunch ofhomosexuals there.... and drag queens. Overpriced dumps!!!!

I'd skip the Vineyard and head for Nantucket. The Vineyard is just an extension of Cape Cod - very nice but no need to go there. Now Nantucket, that is a world of its own. There are many great palces to stay within walking distance of the town. do rent a jeep one day and tour the dunes and rent a moped at least one day to just cruise the paved parts of the island. Have a brunch cruise on a sail boat in the harbor, or a sunset cruise both are great. Happy cruising.

Lambert's cove inn on the vineyard is the most romantic restaurant on the island. I would go to the Vineyard over Nantucket any day.

I too vote for the Vineyard over Nantucket. Nantucket's scenery is all the same, both natural (flat beach) and man-made (all grey shingle), giving the place something of a sterile quality. (The town is quite charming though.) MV is more varied, with different terrain and architecture. I actually like the Cape the most, and it has the most to do. You don't have to spend time in Provincetown, although that's certainly fun and worth a trip. The National Seashore beaches are beautiful. I would stay in the town of Chatham. Congratulations!

I agre with Eddie. Nantucket is nicer

I live in Massachusetts and can't imagine why anyone would pick this state to spend their honeymoon. The islands are quaint and all but still so expensive and quite frankly a little dull. Besides you could get a few days of rain and you most likely will. On the other hand, maybe you have always have had some dream about coming to New England and exploring the area. I just think that you would get more bang for you buck practically anywhere else. If I were you I'd spend the same amount of money or less and go to Bermuda. NOw that would be special! Good luck!!

I must disagree, Darlene. I live in Massachusetts and honeymooned in Bermuda, and found it to be the most boring place on Earth. Plus, we were there in mid-May and it rained every day, we got to go to the beach exactly once, on the day we arrived. I'd recommend MA over Bermuda any time, there's so much more to do!

Consider basing your northshore stay at the Hawthorne Inn in Salem. Very central; you can walk to most restaurants and attractions. I'd recommend the Nathanial Hawthorne House of Seven Gables and Pickering Wharf for strolling. While in the area, be sure to tour the Hammond Castle Museum in Gloucester and shop in Rockport. In Marblehead you might enjoy the most delicious fried seafood in casual atmosphere at Maddie's Sail Loft. Then walk across the street for coffee at the Kings Rook or down to the pier for an ice cream. (I fell in love over that "route" and have been married for 20 years!)
I think Chatham is a great place to stay on Cape Cod. The Wequasset Inn and the Chatham Bars Inn are both top of the line. The Wequasset is a modern resort, the Chatham Bars is old inn. I think the latter has more beach. Not on the beach, but more reasonably priced and just adorable, is the Bradford Inn. A day trip to Nantucket on the high speed ferry is a must. Check in advance for schedule and reservations. It leaves out of Hyannis, so plan accordingly. While in Boston, I think the most romantic restaurant is the Bay Tower Room. You might also consider the Northend Culinary Tour, ending with a dinner reservation in one of their fine Italian restaurants! Hope you have a wonderful honeymoon!

Jen, I think you need your head examined! Bermuda is beautiful!!!!!!!!I used to live in Mass. and frankly, I would never go back. I am now living in NYC and love it. SO much more to do!

I didn't say Bermuda wasn't beautiful, I agree that it certainly is. I said it was boring, especially spending a honeymoon week in the rain.

I also agree with you on NYC being far more interesting than Boston, and I'm planning on moving to Manhattan as soon as my kids graduate from high school! What neighborhood do you live in, and how do you like it?
