Honeymoon in Florida

Hi

Myself and my fiancee are getting married in July of next year and have our hearts set on a honeymoon in the States. We were thinking of Florida, but don't want to be overrun with kids.
Thought about Naples?
What would the weather be like then?
We'd also like to get a car and do a bit of travelling and see 2 or 3 places.
I know this is a bit vague, but does anyone have any ideas for nice romantic honeymoon places in Florida that would fit our bill?

Thanks

Martin

We have all been following your honeymoon saga, now I see you have switched from New England because people told you it was too hot… well Florida is even hotter and more humid in the summer. Many of the people who retire there leave for the summer. Average temp of 82 F/27 C. You might want to go a little further north to Savannah Georgia, Hilton Head Island South Carolina or the Outer Banks of South Carolina. These will be hot, but not quite as humid.

If you do go to Florida, Naples is a lovely area, and the Ritz Carlton (one on the beach) is wonderful. Sanibel/Captiva Islands just north of Naples are very romantic, more relaxed and quiet. They are great for bicycling and walking on the beach. There are some nice hotels and condominiums there. Run a search on this site for ideas.

IMO, New England is not too hot in the summer, average temps are about 73 F/ 23 C. Temps in Maine are 66 F/ 19 C. Places like Banff and Lake Louise in Canada are at their peak weatherwise. Go to worldclimate.com for historical temps and rainfall.

Not to throw too much of a loop, but you might consider something like Colorado or Wyoming for a really different experience. Totally different terrain from Scotland. Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park, etc. are truly an American experience. The Grand Canyon in Arizona is awesome. Of course July is a prime travel month, but you will find this in many places in the US, with the possible exception of Florida….

Maybe you need to decide if you want heat, cities, beach, nature, etc and start asking for more advice after that.

Are you looking for a city trip or a beach trip or both? You got lots of info on the other string about Maine which is beautiful. New England is still a good option, just not concentrated in Boston. What about California? San Francisco & the area south of there or San Diego.

Cicerone, the Carolinas are going to be every bit as hot and humid in July as Florida. The air temps are identical June through September. Totally agree with your advice for going north.

What about beautiful Hawaii for your honeymoon?? Very romantic and tropical yet still part of the good ol' USA!!! It doesn't get humid there because of the trade winds.Because it is summmer, you will encounter kids everywhere, but probably less so in Hawaii than Florida.Lots of things to do and see-driving around in a convertible is a must!!! Have fun wherever you go!

Hi

Thanks for the replies.
OK to be a bit more specific - we'd like somewhere with a few nice villiages/small towns to travel through and stay in, but close enough to a big city to have a few days there too.
I'm starting to think New England isn't so bad.

Someone mentioned California - that would be a possibility - but excuse my lack of knowledge - I'd have thought the West Coast would have been hotter than the East at that time of year?
If not - then sugestions in California would be most welcome.

Thanks

Martin

As far as California weather in summer: July will, in all probability, be warm and sunny with no rain and (here's the key) LOW HUMIDITY. Coastal California is indeed desert, but it's a lot more bearable than the more humid parts of the US. The weather will be more consistent, too. Spring is up and down (89 at home on Sunday, 66 yesterday), but in July you'll have temps in the 70s and 80s on the coast-- at least in the Southern part. Farther inland, you'll see 90s and 100s, yes....

Honeymooning in California? In the southern half, San Diego (Coronado Island or La Jolla especially) and Santa Barbara would be my choice for romantic, beautiful getaways. San Francisco and the Wine Country would be practically ideal, I think-- but I know almost nothing about that part of the state. There are dozens of threads on these topics.

If you're still thinking of Florida, I'd go with Palm Beach for romance and South Beach for spice and sizzle. It'll be VERY hot and VERY humid, but hey, that's what air conditioning is for.
