Honeymoon in Charleston in August?

Hi All,
I am currently planning my honeymoon for the last two weeks of August this year. We are debating between Hawaii (which I have been to several times, but my fiancé has not been to) or doing a trip to the southern US (Charleston/Savannah area, which neither of us has been to). Just wondering if the temperatures will be too unbearable? We are from Vancouver, Canada so we don't get terribly hot or humid summers. Thanks for your suggestions!
Allie

We were in Charleston in mid-September and it was quite hot and humid; I am sure August would be more so. We are from the southwest and it is hot but dry here. We thought it was pretty uncomfortable in Charleston.

I'd go to Hawaii; closer to you and since your fiancé hasn't been... seems like a good alternative. Just my 2 cents.

I'd also vote for Hawaii. Charleston would be hot and humid in August.

Do not visit the south in August! Not unless you want to spend all day indoors with the AC.

It WILL be very humid, and coming from Vancouver, you will notice. BUT Charleston is truly a treasure and you would have a memory like no other.
For 2 weeks, it might be a lot--as might Hawaii. Go to Paris!!

Charleston in August will be hotter than hell and ten times more humid. It is miserable.

I was there in July -brutal. While I loved Charleston (and Savannah), it's not where I would go in August, nor anytime for 2 weeks (a road trip maybe). I wouldn't go to NY or London for two weeks!!

I would certainly go to London for two weeks. Or two months, for that matter. There is so much to do. But I agree, that unless you want to go veg out at the beach, Charleston doesn't need two weeks. You could easily spend two weeks exploring that whole area, though, but you'd need a car and you'd need to do it in the spring or fall.

I wouldn't visit Charleston in August, and I live in Florida, lol! But at home when it's hot and humid and thunderstorming every day I tend to stay in. Trying to be a tourist would be miserable, especially since a lot of the charm of Charleston lies in strolling around, having a drink outside, etc.

NO CHARLESTON IN AUGUST! Been there at that time of year at least a dozen times on our way to HH. Could barely walk around the Historical District. Humidity and heat is unbelievable. Find somewhere else to go.

I live in Charleston and I agree to try to come here nearly any time other than July or August. Having said that, though, it is pretty surprising how busy the summers are here with tourists. I think most of them come from the midwest where it is also hot and humid and they are mostly in search of the beach. Also, I am involved in a summer educational program here and last summer we had a student come from San Francisco- she had never been outside of California before she got off the plane in Charleston in 90 degrees and 90% humidity. I thought she was going to melt but she actually loved it- and she lived here for 6 weeks!

Thanks for your feedback everyone! We have decided to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon! The south will have to wait until we can go on our next adventure!

Plus Hurricanes start in August. Hawaii would be perfect for your honeymoon.
