I'd like to visit Hawaii (hopefully a one week cruise and one week stay) in September 2002 for my Honeymoon. Any suggestions on either cruises to try or islands to stay on? I'd prefer a low-rise to those one of those towering buildings, although I know they are hard to come by at this specific destination. Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

mY FIRST SUGGESTion is for you to repost with Hawaii in the header. The header Honeymoon Ideas would imply that you're open to any suggestions, vs. a limit to Hawaii.

Since you're a new poster here's a tip about posting, meant only to be helpful not to be critical. When posting you may select a city from the list but most users of this site simply log on using just the US and do not filter by selecting posts just from the list. The city you select will not appear on your post so that's why it's important to inlude your destination in your title. Good luck if you decide to repost.

Just my 2 cents regarding cruising the islands. It's really not enough time in each spot to really enjoy each island. If you have 2 weeks why not select 3 islands and spend some time on each. Maui, Kauai, BI and Oahu in that order. Kauai has rules about height of buildings so they can be no taller than a Coconut tree.

Check out honeymoonkauai.com for quite a spectacular house on Kauai. Have seen it from a distance but have not been inside. If you're young a big home off by itself might not be of interest. Otherwise it looks like something very special.

Cheryl: You'll have a great time in Hawaii on your honeymoon. Start at gohawaii.com - The Hawaii Visitors Bureau. They have a great site, and a section for weddings and honeymoons. You'll really only find the 'high' rise hotels on Oahu (Honolulu and Waikiki). If you are looking for a low key island try Kauai, great beauty and a wonderful pace, with terrific beaches.
If you are looking for a little action, try staying in Lahaina on Maui...Good food, action and plenty to do during the day with snorkeling, surfing, sailing, biking and hiking nearby.

The Big Island is a blast (Kona side) but a little slow.

Oahu, is a BIG CITY, with plenty of fun, shopping and excitement, but a short drive to the North Shore and your on another planet....Turtle Bay Resort on the North Side is going through a renvovations but is set in an amazing environment. Have FUN!

Cheryl, have you considered renting a house. My husband & I do this frequently--it's so relaxing & it's fun to "cook in" sometimes--can be very romantic to have your own "little place." We've had very good luck finding places on Kauai, both south & north shore. We also rented a great small house in Hilo, but I agree with prior poster in that big island is pretty quiet. For a one week stay, Kauai is nice as it is small and the north shore is beautiful and quiet. South shore particularly Poipu is a great beach scene. Beware of commute traffic on main roads though. Enjoy making memories!
