My fiance and I are planning a honeymoon to Hawaii for 13 nights. We have our flights booked and arrive into Kona late at night on the 24th of August and depart from Maui on the 6th of September. We would like to go to the BI, Kauai and Maui. We have our heart set on the Four Seasons on the BI and Maui and the Grand Hyatt in Kauai. Can anyone suggest an itinerary for us? Would 3-4 nights be enough for the BI? We are not big on snorkeling.. but everything else we are open to. Thanks!!!!!

First congratulations on your upcoming wedding. Not sure how much research you’ve done here but, my suggestion would be for you to do write honeymoon Hawaii in the search box and you are sure to get a lot of information, also read trip reports from Hawaii (on search box again type trip report Hawaii) and based on that you can make your own itinerary (this always works for me). I see this is your first post so I wanted to write a comment and bring you back to the top. As far as 3-4 days in the BI island, I would do min. 4 not sure if you will be visiting the Volcano National Park (do try to go there) also try to go to Green Sand Beach in the Big Island very beautiful, since you have time to do some planning I found Maui Revealed to be a great source of information they also have it for the Big Island, Kauai and Oahu, if you are interested in any of those publications go to amazon.com they have great rates for these. Hawaii is a beautiful place. If I can be of further help please let me know.

While on Maui, be sure to splurge and go to a luau. This will be one of the highlights of your trip. You will need to make advance reservations. We went to Old Lahaina Luau and loved it.

IMHO, this falls in the category of "Know thyself". To me, a luau is a complete yawn.

Hi, mew - I just happened to stumble across this post and found my name. Congrats on your upcoming wedding, marriage, and honeymoon! We loved Hawaii. We've been to the 3 islands you mentioned. Here's a synopsis of our activities that may steer you in the right direction, since I'm not sure what you're interested in.

On Maui, we did the sunrise at Haleakala, snorkeled at Molokini with Trilogy (even if you don't like snorkeling, it is a day of sailing, and they BBQed on board which was fun), did the Old Lahaina Luau - almost every couple at our table was on their honeymoon, and did the Road to Hana. The Wailea area is really nice and romantic for honeymooners.

On BI, we loved Volcanoes National Park and stayed a night at the Kilauea Lodge which was charming and had a good restaurant; we dined by a big stone fireplace which was nice because it got chilly. We were able to hike out at night to see the lava, that was amazing - hopefully the lava will shift for you so you can do the same if it interests you. The Waipio Valley is pretty, also really loved Akaka Falls - a waterfall which is over 400 feet tall and really beautiful. We stayed at the Hapuna Beach Prince - the beach there is gorgeous if you want a beach day. Also did snorkeling at Kealakekua Bay and got to see the Captain Cook Monument.

On Kauai, the Na Pali coast was the big draw for us. We did a wonderful helicopter ride that was probably our favorite thing and still a great memory, also a Na Pali coast sunset sail with Captain Andy's, and we went to see the Spouting Horn. Also went to the beaches at Tunnels, Ke'e, and Poipu - all were very nice, just have to watch for the currents. Happy honeymooning. You really can't go wrong in Hawaii!

mew747, I've been to the islands several times, doing a different combo each time. With the islands you want to visit, and seeing that your first night will be after arriving late into Kona and you will surely be pooped, I would do 5 or 6 nights Big Island, 3 or 4 nights Kauai and 4 nights Maui. I would indeed do the Lahaina Luau (book a couple of months ahead) as you can't go on your honeymoon to Hawaii and not do a luau! You won't need to go again ... but you should do one. Hi, mew - if you decide to do the Old Lahain Luau, then I would recommend booking a spot at a table; some people were sitting on the ground, and they looked like they got pretty uncomfortable. Definitely heed the advice to book way in advance of your trip; they get booked up really quickly. Enjoy!

I suggest 5 nights on the BI, 4 on Kauai and 4 on Maui. The Big Island has so much area to cover, even a week doesn't totally do it justice. Have fun!
