Hi:

We are driving down to Honesdale from Canada in June to drop off our daughter at a camp.
Can anyone recommend a very nice place to spend the night at near Honesdale (reasonably economical as well) and any local attractions to partake off. Thank you.

honesdale is a pretty small town. usually the camp handbook lists places to stay. if not, call or email the camp and ask. There are a bunch of camps in that area but not too many interesting places to stay. just curious, is it Indian Head camp?

Wow Honesdale!! I have never seen that name come up on this forum! My in-laws owned a home off of Lake Wallenpaupeck near Hawley and Honesdale. The only place that I have ever stayed at (besides my inlaws house) is a wonderful farm resort called "Lukans". It is closer to Hawley, but worth the time to drive to. THey have a website www.lukans.com. It is a German Farm Resort known for clean rooms, great family style food and great prices. They usually book for groups (we are bringing a group up in June) but you can probably get a one night room. Make sure you get the meal package, you will not go wrong!

Thanks for your replies. No, the camp is not Indian Head "M". Lukans sounds lovely John but it may be out of our price range especially in view of how our Canadian dollar sucks these days! I have another question: what is the highway like that leads to Honesdale? Some people have said that there may be a lot of dead wildlife, etc. so we may be reluctant to drive at night. We are only used to seeing dead porcupines hereabouts. Also, we may stay somewhere about an hour or two drive away from Honesdale as we expect to arrive in PA late in the day. Perhaps someone can suggest a hotel, etc., not so near to Honesdale. We hope to drop off our daughter the next day and see the camp in daylight! The camp has given us info re lodging nearby but I thought that someone may be able to recommend some place based on personal experience like John.

Honesdale isn't too awfully far away from Hershey Park, maybe about an hour, hour and a half. Beaufiful driving, though. I honestly can't think of a place to stay there, however.

Shannon, I sent my cheerleading and dance/pom team to a camp there one summer and I remember thinking I was in Mayberry of Andy Griffith Show fame...anyway, I think there's still 2 b&b's right in town...The Double W and Olver's, which I think is on Main Street...will you be traveling via NY Thruway to 84 West to PA Exit 8 (Route 402) to Route 6 East? I think it was along Route 6 that I remember seeing motels and restaurants...there's a train ride in Honesdale...the diner is good for breakfast...you'll also be near Lake Wallenpaupack and the village of Hawley.

Thanks da & Merilee for your replies. What is Hershey Park, da? - amusement area? It must be near the town of Hershey which interests the 3 of us. I believe Merilee, we will be travelling along route 6. What is Hawley like? Thanks again for your info. I appreciate it. Sounds like your cheerleaders might have been at the same camp she will be working at. It looks like a wonderful facility.

What is the name of the Camp? Depending on what route you take to get to Honesdale from Canada can make a big
difference on where you choose to stay.
I live in what a previous poster states
" Mayberry USA" Actually it is a small
town on the Delaware River about 45
minutes North of Honesdale. Very beautiful rural area, clean inexpensive
motel rooms and a few B&B's. WHen camp
season comes rooms fill fast.
Yes, we do have deer that can jump in front of your car on occasion,day or night, but the
roads are not full of dead animals.
