Hilton Hawaiian Village - Honoloulu
We too are staying at HHV...and I have a big question...many tell me this is NOT ON THE BEACH, yet, it sure looks it on the map. What is the real story? Are we going to be walking for miles to get to sand and water? Someone told us to change to the Sheraton? ????

Do not worry, there is PLENTY of beach. It is, however, NOT on Waikiki Beach, which in my view is a blessing, not a curse. You are a 15 minute walk from Waikiki (for good or bad), so you can decide whether you want Waikiki or not. Many of the hotels right on Waikiki (such as the Ala Moana Surfrider and Royal Hawaiian) have tiny beaches which can get VERY crowded in the summer.
You made a good choice, stick with it. BTW, the Wailani coffee shop on the corner of Kalia and Ala Moana Blvd. (just near the entrance to HHV) is a good and reasonably priced alternative to HHV breakfasts.
Aloha

I love it when our choice is reaffirmed and thanks for the coffee update. We have been looking for lower priced breakfast fare...
We just want sand, sun and water...don't care if it is right on Waikiki Beach or not...I also heard pricey to rent the chairs and umbrellas at HHV too...wonder if it is worth picking up chairs at COSTCO when we arrive. We are going to be there for six days.
Thanks, Nanny

Might be worth your while to purchase the chairs at Costco if it's not too much trouble. I think my husband paid $20 to rent an umbrella/chair but I don't remember how long the rental was for. It wasn't worth the money for us because we only stayed an hour at the most. Also, make sure you have water slippers or shoes the sand is HOT HOT HOT

Definately worth it to stop at Kmart or Costco and buy some chairs. Rental is very pricey. Kmart is right on the way from the airport. It definately is on the beach. The beach is very wide, (by Waikiki standards). Although it may not technically be on Waikiki Beach (its at the furthest end of Waikiki, it's not a far walk to the action part of Waikiki--but that part of the beach is VERY crowded)
Note--if taking a surfing lesson, don't do it at the HHV. Its overpriced, and the conditions are not that great. Walk down the beach to where the Hyatt is, and stop at one of the Beach Boy surf stands. Its much cheaper, and the conditions are better there. The Hyatt is by where the Duke Statue is, I think.
My teenagers LOVE the HHV. Everytime we have gone to Hawaii, they insist upon spending a few days there before we head over to another island. Been to all islands, but always go back to HHV!

...you can also see which towers are closest to the beach. My husband and I are staying at the HHV in August and can't wait!!

HILTON HAWAIIAN VILLAGE IS JUST BEAUTIFUL! We were there the 15th of February 2006 before the rains.
The beach was just unreal! not crowded at all and the sand was so white.
The service was great and the view of the ocean was breath taking.
People were so helpful when needed.
I want to go back every year and eventually look into the timeshare they have.
It is so safe and have reasonably priced shopping right there.
I can't imagine a better place to stay.

Hilton Hawaiian Village is on the beach. HHV is in Waikiki. It is about 10-15 minutes from International Market Place which is the center of Waikiki.
Waikiki Beaches are actually a series of small beaches that are right next to each other. The entire length of the beach is almost two miles.
Waikiki Beach itself is only the small area that fronts the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, the Outrigger Waikiki Hotel and the Sheraton Moana Surfrider.
Kuhio Beach starts at the end of the Sheraton Moana Surfrider toward the zoo, then Queen's Surf Beach to the Waikiki Aquariun and then Sans Souci Beach to the end of Kapiolani Park.
Grey's Beach fronts Sheraton Waikiki, Halekulani and Outrigger Reef on the Beach. Then comes Ft. DeRussy Beach and Duke Kahanamoku Beach near HHV.
But, many publicatins call the entire length Waikiki Beach.
Here is a good link that shows the location of the hotels.
